Orthanc's Creation Thread

Actually, they're 5 and 1/4 inch floppy discs... I even still have a couple around the house somewhere (the first PC I built has a 5.25" floppy drive in it)... Heck, I'm half tempted to put a 5.25" FD drive in the next computer I build, just to see the looks on peoples' faces when they see a brand-new system that has the latest duo-core processor, dual-boot WinXP/Ubuntu Linux box with dual-DVD burners, 500 GB HD, and a 5.25" High-density (1.2 MB) FD Drive.

@Blue Monkey: I can build a decent PC (including OS) for about $300.... And if any computer I own thinks it's smarter than me, it's getting broke down for spare parts. :smug: (Remember, I AM a certified electronics technician with 8 years of professional experience, and almost 20 as a hobbyist, on top of which I'm close to earning my AS in Electronic Engineering Technology, a side-effect of which is that I'll be A+ certified by the time I graduate....)

whats wrong your taking quite long to make this one those vistas must give you a hard headace considering how fast and good is your work all the time

this wasnt my request I think its just that usual production rate was 1 unit per week or maybe even faster and now there arent even any progres pictures and stuf

Repeatedly asking for things isn't going to make it any faster.

No it's not my computer that's causing my issue, it's my time I have with my computer that's the issue, for various reasons I've been away from my computer much more than I thought I would. I regret not being able to work on my units as much as I hoped I would be right now, I'm not being lazy, I love making units, there's just other stuff going on (yeah I know I said I'd have plenty of time this summer, but that's life).

You're one of our premier shipwrights - you mean you have a real life as well? :D

... Speaking of which, has anyone "seen" vingrjoe recently?

Still alive!

There isn't much to Arsenal, it's basically one big weird shape, so modelling is getting quite close to completion (don't worry the texture will be getting more work):

El Referenceo

Attack A: Torps
Attack B: Mutliple missiles
Attack C: One big missile (ie: an SLBM)
Missiles will launch from hatches that'll open up on the 'spine' near the bow (the bow of this, thing, is the pointy part, yes it floats but other than that one can barely call this thing a boat:crazyeye:). Arsenal would be able to take on any single vessel, but to quote Revolver Ocelot, alone against much more than that and it's just an enourmous coffin. It's really just a submersible aircraft carrier, except instead of jets it launches Rays (already got that unit done!:D) to deal with threats.

Still Arsenal's entire purpose was to house the AI GW, but I haven't a clue how one might reflect that in Civ, meh.

GW could show by flick when it says turn your PC of !!! just like in game I was like WTH?!?(honestly no one who played it expected that sorta thing comming)

Since arsenal is submarine I gess its going to be submerged with attacks that that will make it go up shot and go back underwater or do you plan something else?

Actually subs can launch their missiles while submerged, so I think this'll be an all-underwater vessel, simplifies things. The Rays are amphibious, so they'd be able to launch while it's submerged as well. An amphibious attack from a stealth vessel should work in Civ...

stipid question time!!!
Will I be able to park it in Manhatn just like Raiden :D
Is there a way to make some unit land and naval at the same time?(I tryed to do it with space ship but it didnt work out to well it could attack and move freely but when something attacked it it went BOOm no mater its health)
any chance of seeing dancing metal gears on arsenal? (when zoomed theyl be trying to squish raiden eventualy :D )
btw on your to do list frigate is a normal naval unit or space ship?
and Virus unit is that from Red Alert or is it something else?

Sure you can park it on New York, just build it in New York and select it, it'll appear on top of the city as always:crazyeye:
I was always hoping that giving an air unit health and movement would give you a truly ambibous unit (or an air unit that can attack land/sea targets like normal), but alas it seems the 'get attacked=death' rule will always foil that idea.
Dancing Rays? I think the only move they could bust would be The Robot
The Frigate is the wooden sailing version, a replacement for the original one to give your fleet more visual consistency with my other ships.
Virus is going to be the unicellular one (ie: a real virus, just unit-sized), someone wanted it for some sort of human body scenario.

:mischief:that reminds if africa realy has some ships apart from kanoe Id be suprised if they had one decent ship for entire continent

The "Swahili" trading city-states south of the Horn in eastern Africa on the Indian Ocean were well established by ca. 1000 - 1100 CE. So at the very least they would have been exposed to Arab dhows.
