i like the sails Orthanc, but maybe you should make them only for the run animation, or maybe run and default. Fortify have the oars come out and the sails come down, in preparation for the attack.
Hmm, while having the sails unfrul and oars pop out, or vice versa, for the appropriate animations, would be quite cool, I think that would make the simpler animations way too complex, the run would get tedious very fast. I think I'll scap the sails on this and just put a boat load (pun intended ) of oars in. On second thought, I'll scrap all but the very back sail, or should I drop that too? I'll be back once I make some changes.
My suggestion would be no sails (spars & oars only) until run. Thus only the run would be a pain. Since it would start and end with oars, but use sails in the middle.
The problem isn't in making it, the problem is how it looks in game. If I had the sails going only for the run, everytime the thing moves you'd have the sails unfold, flap for a fraction of a second, then fold back up, all the while the oars are going. It's best to have sails and/or oars being put away only for fortify/fidget/victory animations.
So, how is it with oars and no sails, except a mizzen (back/steering) sail?
Mmmm...I wasnt gona comment, but I like it like this...
but it looks a little vacant?...maybe if there was an opposing sail, like the mizzen only on the front, in a slightly chinese junk style(the placement not the style of the sail itself)...???...
I think I've found the perfect compromise that'll put this all together, thanks Spacer One for the suggestion, that's just what was needed. I'm just debating now whether I should have the two sails rotate a little during the run.
I'm surprised you didn't put any of the funky seahorses or other decor on any of the three ships, nevertheless they look decididly Thai and are probably something the Thai would have fielded if they developed on their own. Likely future designs after these would encorporate the general shape of the Chinese Junk, since thats where Europeans got the shape for the classic age of sail ships. Or they may have just built Junks themselves, like in my mod...
Where are you sailing off to next? Final Fantasy land with the White Seed Ship?
Well first I got 2 space ships from Stargate to do for Spacer One, then I've got another Skaven ship for Lizardmenrule!, a Dhow, and then the White SeeD ship.
You don't have to do the stargate ships, i could handle those if you want, i believe I saw a mothership unit somewhere, or a model I could use to make one
Sword_Of_Geddon I would be extremely grateful if you could do that, not that I don't want to do Spacer One's request, it's just I think it would be better to maintain my boat theme for the time. Just try to start work on it by at least the 20th, if not today, so that Space One gets the units at about the same time I agreed to.
If my opinion counts...Id rather have SoG work on my ships, so as to not disturb the zone Orthanc is in with the ships...
@SoG...The scenario is done, just waiting on those 2 ships...Not to rush you, quality is better than speed...also, what kinda models do you use?...Model/Mesh...I will find you a model for the Ha'Tak(I know of 2 off hand out there)...The Al'Kesh is trickier...I havent found anything for it yet...
he didnt make the whole ship...just the model and some positions...I already asked him for it...and he "politely" told me he got rid of it or lost his HD or something...either way, he WONT be working on any new Civ3 units, and isnt willing to send me what he has...
it seems there is a trend of starting Stargate units, and leaving them unfinished...Ive found 2 incomplete Ha'taks...2 incomplete Jaffa...an incomplete "anubis cruiser"
Im so close to finishing this scenario(which has had a thread for almost 18 months) and I dont want it to go the way of the "trend"
As for the Khaat, animation is still underway, but I've got a huge drawing to do right now for class that's taken all of today so far, so progress has slowed a little.
