The Solaris has a sailed mode so that makes it very very versatile as a unit. BTW Othanc thankyou for making the Mesoamerican Frigate! I appreciate it!

So we've got a good amount of Solaris progress. Might be a stretch, but I'm aiming to finish up the model tonight. I'll be doing the solar-sail version first, then do the normal sail version.
And POV Ray is like riding a bike, once learned, you never forget. Though, having never rode a bike myself

Actually it was just an art fundamentals course they put me in, and I'll be taking the second year of that in September. Still trying to get into the actual animation program (they didn't let me in again this year), but still, the course I've been in was very good. Probably won't change too much of what I'm doing with units, but I can draw and paint a boat-load better.
Anywho, modelling is surprisingly close to being done:

Yeah, I say boat alot for totally related reasons. Cause, in case you never noticed, I like boats...
Anywho, solar-model is done, even set up so that the big panels can fold in, should make for a neat fidget animation. And now, despite not being allowed into an actual animating course, I shall animate none the less. *maniacal laughter*
Oh, I switched from a light blue hull to a light grey hull. One reference picture I have has it blue, the other white. I figured the blue was from the light off the water. Also the blue made it look a little too much like a toy....

I'm anxious to see what kind of attacks you give this ship, may I request one with cannons? I might use the sail variation for a Incan Galleass.

Yeah I was thinking about that too, I'll definately have a cannon attack, then optional arrow, and maybe some sort of 'solar laser' attack.

Oooh, the sails could collect the death rays of death from outer space and then the boat shoots them from the.. the thingies, the sticks you put in teh water... er..um.. oars?

I agree with the canons idea. They were not on the original "concept", but this ship is begging for canons on its sides!

Yep! In fact a VERY realistic ship is going into the yard now! The Averof (emphasis on the 'f', cause the original requester spelled it instead with a 'v'. Right or wrong, Wikipedia and other search engines spelled it 'f', and fixing that let me find all my reference pics. Meh)
It's a good ol' fashioned Dreadnaught-era vessel. Always wanted to put one of those together, should be fun! Here's a reference pic I found:
