OT: Proposals for next Demo Game

I understand it's an RPG element but I don't see any benefit in adding a layer of bureaucracy, especially one that only sits there.

You obviously don't understand the term RPG or bureaucracy. I'll begin with the latter. A bureaucracy is a concentration of power through and excessive amount of administrative departments (or bureaus.. whichever term you like).

Moving on towards the former, in the past we've had Citizen Honors, civil wars, and many other things. In some circumstances they even slowed down the game, but in most instances they were extremely popular. They are fun. The past couple of DG's we've made the mistake of trying to go far to big (AKA get the full-blown RPG back) instead of focusing on the smaller elements.

Thanks for lecturing me but I still don't believe it works as you suggest. It will be fun for some people (no doubt about that) but if I look at the current demogame it isn't really fun that we lack. What we lack is a generally accepted method for keeping a pace while not stepping on some people's toes. I'm far more interested in a solution for that issue.

Well, it seems some here could not care less about keeping a pace, and have an unlimited amount of toes to be stepped on. Unless we agree to a predictable process flow with set parameters, we are going nowhere.

Generally we have been keeping a good pace in my opinion, if people who feel their toes are getting stepped on would care to say so when they feel that is happening I believe the game would progress even more smoothly. The problem isn't the way things are structured in the game, it is the unwillingness of some people to accept the most simple method for resolving problems in favor of more aggressive and time consuming methods.

In the most recent conflict for example, yes there were suggestions, in every thread created saying engineering would have a benefit to whatever was being discussed, often a that benefit being a bit of a stretch. However those talking about it never said 'hey can we re poll this, I think there's significant support for engineering first?' The first I knew that there was even a dispute about the tech path was when a few days before the scheduled session a series of polls and lawsuits were put in place.

The way to speed up the game and to keep people involved is to simply say when you feel something is being done wrong, and if necessary post a poll about it to demonstrate majority support, within a reasonable time period.

That said I really like the idea of a monarchy for the game, I think we seriously need to consider more of an RPG element for the next game and a monarchy would be one component of that new game.

What we lack is a generally accepted method for keeping a pace...

Yeah, this is a lot of what I'm talking about. The only argument I've seen against a set weekly schedule is that some folks want to play faster. That's just gonna have to be settled, 'cause some can't play faster.

The other big issue is having clear-cut rules for decision making. As it stands, from what I can tell, polls are arbitrarily posted and enforced, and merely serve as fuel for pointless bickering.

As for royal families, RPG elements, etc, I have no opinion ether way. Factions, sub-factions, families, unions, etc sound great, but, seriously All I want is a clear, simple rule and time set.

I disagree entirely, polls are the most fair and direct method for stopping pointless bickering, what we need is a standard set of rules for how polls should be created, very much like Hyronymus' proposal, and from that pointless bickering challenges to polls will be prevented.

We also need a timed and sequenced process, as the design and structure of discussions to polls is AS essential as the poll itself. Until we end the anarcho-liberal system, we will all suffer, poll reform or not.

Good idea - now write one up that will be understood, accepted and will work. Seriously - you certainly don't like the current system. I'd interested to see what you'd put together.

I have something in the works, but would like to know if it would be Vanilla, Warlords or Beyond the Sword. I would surely like an upgrade from "Vanilla".
