Other companies can learn from this...

Man, I haven't seen a game with so many problems attached to it. You know I think we should all send out mass emails in forums for other games, and tell them to take a close look at these forums for a good lesson about making sure you put out a somewhat playable version on the market. At least with other games I own the patches have fixed problems, not caused more...even the installing the patch itself in it's own installing process encounters problems...this has to be a freakin joke or something. I have never seen it this bad before....

It's almost they may have used maybe one beta tester who owned one machine type, and one OS type with only one video card type.

SID, if your reading, and watching put these programmers of your series in line will you.

I think to save your good name SID...do the programming yourself.

And to the programmers, don't play the "programming is hard" card, it doesn't work...if it's that hard, better change professions...pumping gas may be a good career change. You guys became programmers for the love of it, or maybe the love of money...either way you have failed in programming this particular game.

SID has taken so much care in his creations....

Yes, I'm a fan of Sid's work can you tell?

If you DON'T want people to complain...make a better product...this is not only the programmers fault, it's the company as well. I can only imagine what it may be like working under people who are pushing for a release date, always looking over your shoulder, telling you that there are 5000 other people waiting in line to take your job, if that is so, take yourself, and the other programmers go to your basement, and show the gaming community what you can do. So many people have given excellent high quility games from their basements in the past. The great thing about being a programmer is that you can go into a basement.

Anyway....

There are so many people P'Oed about this game. You rushed it out for Christmas when you SHOULD have (hindsights great isn't it) tightened the game up, and employed more beta testers with all types of machines...trying to save money, you knew that Civilization fans out there would snap this up in a moments notice...you knew all this....you RUSHED IT...now what you have are people very angry, frustrated, the companies in which they purchased the game from won't let you even swap for another copy...can't blame the store owners too much you even have hurt these stores because people now won't go buy any games from them because they are unresonable...you guys have to remember, when you put something like this out, the turd always runs downhill, and you guys have layed one hell of a big turd this time, and it hurts eveyone down the line....

AND.... I have read that there are so many different type systems out there...gaming companies have a guide to work with concerning Hardware, Software. You either have XP, WIN98se/me/2000 ops. Hardware concerning video is Nividia ATI, and a couple of others that are not the major hitters out there.

Then you have windows NT 4.5 / Linux / Mac...

Hell, you would think that you guys were programming the game for the MAC, then ported it over to PC.

Later!

What a laugh.

OMG! You started ANOTHER thread with this rubbish in? I've seen your replies in about 4 or more threads on the same subject! It's almost spamming, what you are doing!

Hi....making the programmers get back to basics. You must be a programmer?

(grin)

Baasac, you keep defending this game like there are not multiple problems with its gameplay. I cannot get the game to run without random hard lockups. I would return the game and get my money back, but that isnt possible. I believe that people have a right to ***** if they paid 50 dollars for a game that doesnt work with no possible way of getting their money back. There is no excuse for releasing a game that will not run on what I would consider general hardware. That is: Nvidia graphics, AMD 64 CPU, Nforce4 chipset, Soundblaster soundcard, a gig of ram. My hardware is not below specs and the brandnames are fairly mainstream.

It wouldnt be half as bad if Take2/Firaxis would just RESPOND to people and explain that they KNOW there is a problem and that they are working on it. That would be considered good customer service in my opinion. But instead, they just respond with cut and paste emails and stick their head in the sand. Sorry, but that doesn't cut it.

Rob

I don't think anyone here has figured out the game plan. The public IS the beta tester!

Hi Rob. I don't think I am defending this company for such shoddy work. Please re-read what I have posted.

Now with that being said I have had some of the problems that have been inflicting everyone else out there. I had to wait two months to get the internet just to get the patch, so I went without playing the game for that long, and believe me when I tell you this, there were moments when I wanted to take a hammer to the game, and throw it out the window, but where would that leave me? Out $70 dollars, and the best way for me to get back at them is wait for the patches, play the game, and never, and I mean never buy from them again.

Another thing to watch out for are the names of the programmers (if you can get them), it's these guys who write the code...if they write a bad game never buy a game with those programmers listed...bad programmers only program bad games.

I know what your going through, I had the exact same problems with Halflife 2 when it came out, no responses to my repeated emails. I vowed never, and I mean never buy anything from that Valve company again, and I haven't, and never will.

The reason why I bought the game was that the Civ series is incrediable for one, and it had Sid's name behind it (I have been following that guy since 1991).

But that doesn't help you with your problem. Believe me I know how frustrating it is when this happens, and this is the first game I have ever came across that would not install, and play.

Give them a little more time, you will be able to play the game.

I don't know what else to say other than no I'm not letting these guys off the hook, and they are what is making this gaming industry really bad.

Also....One more thought to add, I blame the larger companies for swallowing up the smaller better companies. Once the big boys got their disgusting hands on the smaller software companies that is when we started having our problems.

I hate it when you see a fledging company start rising to the top, and the bigger companies say "WOW, look at this, lets offer them money they can't refuse", so off the smaller company goes, finally made their big break in the industry, they can now drive their Ferrais, Mazdas, who knows what else...they sold out, so this is what we have ended up with...corporate ownership, and they care for no one, they don't care about you, they don't care about me, nor your family...they probably sell their own mothers to the devil to make a dollar.

This is the problem...Making Money. What does it matter to them if they make a bad game, they have their hands in everything else out there making money for them.

Anyway, chat later!
