I'm not sure this is what you want - I added Scandiavia and Turkey to my game which is probably close enough to what you want for Vikings and Ottomans. I resorted to my atlas which pretty much anyone can do so forgive please forgive me if this isn't what you wanted... era specific names are pretty hard to find. ;)

I picked the names I thought were obvious then scanned for the bigger circles on the map... :)

For the Turks don't forget "Seldshuk" - a town build on the ruins of Ephesos.

Ephesos was an ancient Metropole wich existet before Alexander the Great and until the Seldshuks - the first Islamic Turk Rulers - overran the area... (after an Earthquake made the city down..)
Ephesos was the capital of the Roman Province Asia, and a religous Center over thousands years

But then they Turks - or better the Turkish Seldshuks made up their Empire... and on the Ruins of Ephesos they build "Seldshuk"

But it isn't a big town today... I just thought that a turkish civ might use "Seldshuk" in their City names list....

Thanks for that info pi8ch. I will definitely add Seldshuk to my list. It's always nice to have a bit of history behind the names. :)

Just the two most famous ones: Eric the Red and Leif Erikson. Didn't spend much time looking for more as I believe you can only have one active hero at a time anyway.

Was gonna add Beowulf, but I think he's more Anglo-Saxon although I'm not sure there was that much of a cultural difference at the time of his 'story'. I'd love to hear what someone who knows more has to say.

I have about 3 heros for the Turks but for the life of me I can't remember their names. (I'm at work right now - ha ha - so I don't have access to the game). Please post what you have, even if I don't use them I'm sure someone else will. :)

I believe when Istanbul was capital of the Ottoman Empire its name was Constantinople.;)

True enough. Constantinople is an older name for the Istanbul used during the Byzantine Empire and later also by the Ottoman. The modern name comes from a Turkish corruption of the Greek phrase "into the city" => "Eis teen polin". This is what the ordinary joe-turk called it even during the Ottoman period. In my game I named the civ "Turkey" - so I go with the modern Turkish name.

I believe when Istanbul was capital of the Ottoman Empire its name was Constantinople.

Byzanz.. The first name.. later the Capital of the East Roman Empire
Constantinople... Emperor Constantin renamed it...
Istanbul... The turkish name...

For an Turkish Civ I would say only "Istanbul" fits, because all the others are not turkish names!
Don't forget that the Turks came later in history!

Byzantine:Byzantine Empire civ

Constantinople:Ottoman Empire civ

Istanbul:Turkey civ

I think that's good.:D

I just know that ottomans used to call scandinavians as "russian", they were not able to see any distinction between russians or them.

and before the turkish presence on anatolia, vikings were guarding hagia sophia, and they were calling constaninapolis as "miklagard", which means "big city" in old scandivian, constaninapolis' poplation was close to 1 million people even in ancient times.

And Constantinople named as Istanbul, it is also a different pronunciation of Constantinople. And official name of Istanbul remained as "Konstanniye" till the republic.

I think Viking were more related with ancient turks such as Huns or maybe seljukids.

here is an old turkish movie "tarkan vs. vikings", a fiction story was about a Hun warrior (Tarkan) who goes to Viking lands for revenging his wolf's death. In Viking lands, he meets with Ursula and he fights with Ursula against the Toro who took the crown from Ursula by using force after the death of the king.

excellent fun but the uploader to Yahoo has omitted the extremely "hilarious" fight against the octopus , which was apparently some sort of balloon floating on the sea . One man armies have always been popular , you know ...
