I thought it would be cool to start a thread for the most outrageous quotes that members find that are outrageous. These quotes could be funny, outlandish, serious, etc, etc.

I'll set this off with...

James Valley said:
"The citizens deserve peace, that some infringement on constitutional rights is OK(..)"

I thought that would be it for a while, but alas, I am now able to match the previous quote...same story.

Helena-West Helena City Councilman Eugene "Red" Johnson said:
"As far as I'm concerned, at 3 o'clock in the morning, nobody has any business being on the street, except the law," Councilman Eugene "Red" Johnson said.

For completely outlandish quotes

The recent earthquake that was felt across Israel was the result of the homosexual activity practiced in the country

This was said by Knesset Member Shlomo Benizri, after an earthquake in February, saying that in the Gemara, "a number of causes of earthquakes [are mentioned], one of which is homosexuality, which the Knesset legitimizes". Should we introduce him to Fred Phelps?

"Most blacks -- not all but most -- in Tennessee, especially in the Memphis, Tennessee area, are still living in the 50's and 60's. They are so racist that they don't even realize that white Americans have moved on. And so whenever there's a campaign like this, such as this, they always use racism in order to intimidate white America." Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson discussing the racial mudslinging in the Memphis Democratic primary campaign, Hannity & Colmes, 8/6/08

To follow up on my series of constitutional rights quotes...

I'm pretty sure that quote is bunk. Let's be realistic here: if the sitting president called the Constitution "a goddamn piece of paper" then it'd be a national scandal. The fact that no mainstream news organization (And by that, I mean not this site, and no one not directly quoting this one random site) has picked it up shows there's probably nothing to it.

If the godamn President is Bush then is just one stupid Quote to add to the hundreds stupid quotes he has said.

And why would it be a national scandal ? It is not like he put his banana in a female's avocado.

Because the President is supposed to defend the Constitution. He swore an oath to do so. If he were to so blatantly disregard that, he would probably be impeached immediately.

Yeah, just like you'd think that it would be a national scandal if the same President fired attorneys for refusing to kowtow to his line, or if a sitting Attorney General didn't think that Habeus Corpus exists, or if people were being held indefinitely without being charged, or if the President basically gave himself the power to listen to your private phone calls without needing a warrant, or if he made up a bunch of BS to go to war, or if his closest political advisor committed treason by revealing the identity of an undercover federal agent in retribution for someone questioning the wisdom of his President's motives, or or or...

Here in America, lots of people have an almost religious respect for the Constitution. (And the Mormons actually believe it's divinely inspired, which is pretty awesome, actually ;)) So a politician calling the Constitution a "goddamn piece of paper" would be a pretty big deal, and would hurt his career pretty significantly.

Your point kind of fails, because all those things - or some version of them, anyway - were widely reported within the mainstream media. Print, TV, internet. And they got tons of press coverage. This 'story' has got none outside of a few wacky internet sites. It's a good comparison, but not because it supports your point. Because it supports mine.

LMAO .

"And they have no disregard for human life."—Describing the brutality of Afghan fighters, Washington, D.C., July 15, 2008

"Should the Iranian regime—do they have the sovereign right to have civilian nuclear power? So, like, if I were you, that's what I'd ask me. And the answer is, yes, they do."—Speaking to reporters in Washington, D.C., July 2, 2008

"We got plenty of money in Washington. What we need is more priority."—Washington, D.C., June 2, 2008

I really don't know what my response should be to your comment. Maybe you are being sarcastic otherwise I think you have too much faith in those elected presidents, they are just human beings and worst of all they are politicians. If you don't know how the game is played in D.C then I think you should apply for a intern job with any real politician to see for yourself. Some people might hold constitution in a high regard, but I am sure more people won't even understand what the constitution really means. People in politics study constitution not to protect them, but how to maneuver through it to get what they want, and they are really good at it. In some way it is true that constitution is just a piece of paper, it only has its use when everyone believes it like a fanatics just like gods to religions.
