Over the Reich - the 2nd Playtest

Just woke up from my post night shift sleep and tried my external SSD hard-drive on my desktop and to my dismay I also got the 'File Or Directory Is Corrupted Or Unreadable' message. Heart in mouth time! Thankfully there was a super easy fix on You Tube:

I will get on with the turn as soon as possible. Going to back up my files first though in case the SSD is on it's way out.

Nothing is ever simple about keeping a 20 year old game running!

We are rained out here and will be around so just let me know.

GERMANY Turn 3

One Freighter sunk in the North Sea, one north of Ireland, one south of Ireland, two in the Bristol channel and ten in the Atlantic.

One Sunderland shot down over the Baltic (Fw190) and one in the Bay of Biscay (Fw190).

One Spitfire shot down off Cornwall (Me110). One Me110 lost and another Spitfire shot down north of Dunkirk (Fw190) with one Fw190 lost.

Beaufighter shot down by flak over Holland.

ALLIES Turn 3

Battle of the Atlantic

The Battle of the Atlantic kicks into high gear with 23 U-Boats sunk.
3x North Seat
1x Bristol Channel
7x South of Ireland
12x Atlantic

1x Fw200 is shot down by F4F's operating from a Royal Navy carrier in the Atlantic.
Another Fw200 is shot down NE of Ireland by Spitfires from No. 19 Squadron RAF which had been re based to North Ireland.

Daylight Operations
*The Luftwaffe does succeed in beating back a planned raid on the Citroen factory and so the bombing raid north of Paris has to attack their secondary target, the ball bearings factory in Paris. This is successfully destroyed, however heavy flak continues to take a toll and 6 more bombers are destroyed. (Note: these types of targets aren't as important to you --at least at first-- because I have to destroy 3 or so for you to feel ill effects, so I'd call this a win for you).

*Though too late to save the bombers, P-47D11s from the 56th Fighter Group "Zemke's Wolfpack," Spitfire Mk. IXs from the 4th Fighter Group, and P-38Fs from the 55th Fighter Group tangle with the Luftwaffe in the Calais region, shooting down 6 Fw190s without loss.

*RAF Spitfires from No. 1 Squadron RAF avenge their comrades and shoot down a Fw190 east of England.

Night Operations
A massive battle wages north of Holland as the Luftwaffe has accepted battle within the limited range of the RAF Beaufighters and Mosquitos. 9x Me110s are destroyed and a further 6 He111s (presumably being used as scouts) fall to Allied guns. The 1000 bomber raid lumbers on.

Edit-hurri2ds atrack and kill a mobile AA at the cost of one hurricane in Normandy.

ALLIES Turn 4

Battle of the Atlantic

36 U-Boats sunk, the overwhelming majority in the Atlantic or approaches to Bristol Channel, with 2 in the North and 1 that somehow made it past our destroyer screen near Liverpool. 1 Fw200 is shot down by an F4F operating from a Royal Navy carrier.

Daylight Operations
A small USAAF raid strikes the Citroen factory, but it is ineffective and only reduces the factory to half-strength. 5 B-17 aircraft are lost to its guns.

Night Operations
The 1000 bomber raid continues to lumber on despite heavy losses. Escorts are able to shoot down 9 Me110's, but lose a beaufighter. At this point, the bombers can only be escorted by the far less numerous Mosquito (I only have one city that can build it for now).

Allied command has not seen many Luftwaffe bombers and wonders when they will strike...

ALLIES Turn 5

Battle of the Atlantic

I was wondering when the Luftwaffe would show up to spoil the fun!

I believe 29 subs were sunk but may be off by one or two as I caught myself not making check marks. Most in the Atlantic with 4 in the Baltic and 2 in the North sea. One of our freighters discovered a sub the hard way and was sunk. I also sunk one of your invasion barges in the Baltic.

1x He111 and 1x Fw190 shot down by carrier aircraft.

Daytime Operations
1x Me109 shot down near Paris by P-38s

Nighttime Operations
Essen is burning for the loss of 1 Wellington
Dusseldorf was also attacked, but its air defenses knock down 9 Sterlings and 1 Wellington. It is badly damaged
(Quite the luck spread between these two targets, eh?)
I will say I had hoped to do considerably more damage in the first 1000 bomber raid. Good job on your defense.

5x Me110 shot down

I am concerned what is in store when I have to go after farther targets. You're chewing me up pretty good when I attack the close ones.

That's not a photograph taken in the '40's! :p

GERMANY - Turn 6

Two Escorts sunk in the Baltic and six in the Bay of Biscay and Atlantic. One He111 lost.

Over Holland and the Ruhr two RAF bombers and four Beaufighters shot down.

North of Paris a large raid by the USAAF is intercepted. Seven B17 Flying Fortresses, one Lightning and one Thunderbolt shot down for the loss of five Fw190.

Drew I just realized I made a huge error. I forgot to edit the terrain under each regular city to something that the raw materials can travel on, so they never spawn, which means that your economy is likely grinding to a halt, and you aren't getting any aircraft.

I propose to resolve this by editing the save file, giving you $15,000 via cheat, and also changing the terrain this turn.

I'll post the turn in a few hours - I made the changes and gave the Luftwaffe $15,000. Give yourself another $35,000 split how you see fit.

Never mind was able to finish before I had to leave. Do give yourself that crazy amount of $ as you should have had that.

U-Boats = 22 mostly in Atlantic, some in North Sea
2 x He111 and 1 x Me110 by carrier aircraft

Citroen attacked but not destroyed, 5 more bombers lost
3x P-38's shot down
1x P-47 shot down
3x 190 shot down
1x 109 shot down

RAF makes feeble attack on Dusseldorf, 1 bomber lost
1 spitfire destroyed

GERMANY - Turn 7

Eight Freighters sunk in the North Sea.

Fifteen Freighters and ten Escorts sunk in the Atlantic and the Bay of Biscay as well as one Sunderland shot down.

North and West of Paris nine B17 and three Thunderbolts shot down for the loss of three Fw190.

Mannheim still has railbed terrain, but I can work around that. Money claimed, thanks!

Apologies for the delay in playing. I had a busy week and when I had spare time I was just too tired to devote the required concentration to this highly complex scenario. When I have a free morning at home or a night shift at work where I can devote my attention to playing then it is a pleasure. It's just a very time and concentration intensive game and I don't want to rush through and not do justice to it.

If you want to change Mannheim on your next turn, it's very simple to do with TOTpp. I forgot to do it this time.

I didn't know if circling the Citroen factory with defensive fighters would be considered a ploy, but I guess you only had to shoot one down to make an opening for your bombers. In game turns this represents heavy fighter cover and the need for the Allies to engage them to give the bombers a chance of getting through.
