Pagan Culture

I don't think we agreed to follow the no DOW without asking for religion change :) It would be too constraining (especially given our situation). Having to do a chariot rush is bad enough as it is. HA rushing is not very efficient. They take a lot more research and more hammers to build. It's better to just swarm with a lot of chariots. I would estimate 2.5 chariots per archer. So assuming Monty will have 3 archers, we'll want 7-8 chariots before declaring. That shouldn't be too bad since Athens has two high hammer tiles (horses + cows) and Sparta can work cows + wheat + gold. I imagine most of the chariots will come from Athens though since it'll take time to get Sparta online... Also, if you can find the time to whip out another WB for the fish, that may help as it'll let us work the plains hill as well.

15 turns sounds good.

I wouldn't worry about legendary candidates yet. It's a long ways off and we'll probably need to keep teching for most of the game.

I WB the clams first for the coin (obviously). None of the other tiles we're working produce commerce (except for the newly created horses). I figured commerce would be more useful than 1 extra food at this point so that we could tech through BW and AH faster. Now that I think about it, the fish may have been better for getting the settler out faster but I imagine it would have only made a 1-2 turn difference. We got Sparta in a good spot (I don't see any better city location between here and Monty land) so it couldn't have been that bad of a move :mischief:

I think if you unload the BUG mod before playing the game, it should be fine. I'm not sure if loading a non-BUG game automatically disables BUG. If you can't disable it, don't worry too much about it. Just let us know if BUG is still active so that we don't accidentally peak into the turn log.

I don't think we have any techs that we need right now. IW may help but it's unlikely to be in Athens's BFC so I don't think it's a rush. Writing may help more.

I spent my 15 turns researching Pottery for granaries that will be handy once we start whipping, and starting Writing (can be changed). My focus was on production, and we now have 4 chariots, with more in the pipeline. Interesting enough Monty is leaving his capital virtually undefended with only one archer - I guess the other troops are escorting a new settler.

I would wait a few turns anyway for 2-3 chariots more. The workers should build a road between our cities before improving the tiles around Sparta.

That looks tasty. I think we should move the chariots on to the SW gold hill and see if monty reinforces his capital. If it stays at 1 archer and we have 3-4 chariots on the hill, we should declare and attack his capital. We may get lucky and take him out before the settler makes a new city

wow these first turns were fast...
too bad I've got to run now as I'm already nearly late, I'll play&post tomorrow.
just happy I'll be the first to dow someone already in my first set :)

Against all expectations I still could play tonight :D
But I get that nasty error... Something wrong with my assets. I don't really know what to do but I think reinstalling the game would solve it but I'd really like to avoid that :mischief: Maybe this is caused by BUGmod. Can somebody tell me how to turn it off and what I have to do to fix this error?

Oh. I turned on locked modified assets. You won't be able to play the game with modified assets... I didn't realize that conflicted with blue marble and/or BUG. Can you disable the mods while playing the game?

Try emptying your My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\CustomAssets folder (I would make a back-up of it somewhere else, so you can copy-paste it back later). I can't guarantee that it will work, but it might help.

P.S.
I was also using the BUG mod and the save worked without problems, so I'm not sure if it's really the problem.

If its not too far along, I will join you all...this looks interesting.

Sure no problem. I'll slide you into the end of the roster:

I did this once (custom assets was empty) and it didn't work

i'll try again later today.... now school first

Try playing the game with all of the mods unloaded. You're running 3.13 right? Yena didn't have any problems with the assets so you must have a non-standard install on your computer...

I run: BUG mod, Blue Marble, 3.13, Bhurics patch. However I changed some small things like Global warming and Partisans, I think this causes the problem (?). I'll try some more stuff and then reinstall the game if I have to and play then. However I have still no idea how to unload BUG mod...

Now, I reinstalled BtS, installed 3.13, Bhuric, BlueMarble -> same error.
If nobody knows how I can get rid of this problem, let me know otherwise I won't be able to play :(

skip me at least for now...

It's the Bhruic patch that's the issue I think. It may change the original assets of the game.

I just checked in the bhruic thread. Mystfly - I think the installer you're using for the Bhruic patch is over writing the original assets of the game (which is a no-no for any mod). You should install the Bhruic patch as a mod by placing the assets into a mod directory. I think that should solve the problems.

??? What installer are you talking about??

The file I downloaded in that thread is a zip with a dll and some other files that are source code. So I only changed that dll file: I copied it in my civilization 4/beyond the sword/assets/CvGameCoreDLL.dll and overwrote the original (made a backup). So if I don't use this dll it should run?? Just the original 3.13 then?

If you copy the .dll file in your CustomAssets folder, bhuric's patch should still work, but the original file will be prserved, which might solve your problem

Alternatively, you can run the standard assets as a "mod" by making a mod directory (call it whatever you want) and making a directory within it called "assets". Then just copy the original CvGameCoreDLL.dll into the new assets directory and run that mod. You should be able to load the game from within that (I think).
