Palace and Civilization don't quite match

What I mean is the default style of palace u can build for each civilization. Firstly, the Indians..... though Indians are asian their building style is obviously unlike the one of China and Japan, I would say the Middle Eastern way is more suitable for them (check that famous white tomb in Indian, i think it is muslim style).
Secondly, the Americans. Why do they have a native American style palace instead of a Greeco - Roman or European (check the White House building style)
Anybody any comment?

The palace just goes by their culture group. And there are only 5 culture groups. Native American, Asian, Mediterranean, European, Middle eastern. They didn't want some groups with too many in them, and others with very few in them, so they had to do some switching around.

If the Americans were in the European group, then there would only be 2 Native Americans. If India was in the middle eastern group then there would be only 2 Asians (pre-PTW). Also notice the Zulu are in the middle east. They didn't want to make an African culture group and only have 1 civ in that group (2 if you put Egypt there). I guess it is more balancing (culture group does play some role in game play, not just for city/building graphics) to have 3-4 in each group, then to have 1 or 2 in some and 6 in another.

The whole culture group idea seems like crap for me. I never noticed any difference due to the common culture group trait. And the palace is annoying for me. Initially it was fun but now the palace contruction does not match with the era/situation of my nation.

I think they make civs think of you better. And for the palace, if you had 24 different designs (with PTW), the Firaxis artists would probably go nuts!

I got tired of palace building very quickly. Now I just hit the "X" and go on with the game. Wish there was a "Disable Palace Construction" option. Wasn't that available in Civ 1 or 2?

I usually just make what looks nice too me. Used to be just indian because nothing else seemed right, now I just make a giant amalgam of different culture groups. I'm pretty sure that under prefrences, that can be turned off.

Was in civ1,2. In civ3 this is somehow possible because i'm not asked to improve palace in recent games (ok, i built wonders etc, not just 1 city...). Dunno if i disabled it in pref or just hit esc when asked and then never been asked again.

If I defeat a Civ I usually make the next piece of my palace in their style... I think of it as using their architects and workers for slave labor!
