Palin Speech: I smell fear.

The reason it is there is for to give context to the current whining of of the McCain campaign that "daughters are off limits"
You know, Palin's age puts her conception during McCain's pre-combat navel service, and he did have a reputation for partying...

I mean one shore leave and...

Maybe John McCain wasn't only thinking about Bristol Palin with that statement. ;)

I'd just like to say that the OP has no monopoly over the opinion of UCLA students.

kthxbye

Must be a Students Firster.

But on a serious note, I never claimed that. :) I'm very do not share the opinion of most UCLA students. Actually, not any.

kthnxhi

too much talk about her kids....did we really need to go over birth order and all there names?
Did she point out the one conceived before her marriage? She should have clung to her panties if she wanted to cling to her religion.

If she had any say in that speech, I would have watched. If it had any of her in it. If she owned any of it. She didn't write a word. I don't need to hear McCain's speech writer espouse through a different mouth.

Oh so it's a family tradition :mischief:

is it stupid to think Track is a weird name?

I was just in the gym here at UCLA, finishing railing a line in the locker room

Do we need to know all that?

I'm gonna laugh when you get some sort of nasty bacterial infection in your nose from doing lines off the counter that someone else put their ball-shaving razor on.

That's implied, but not proven, by the time of his birth. But even if it's true, so what? If the supposedly puritanical Religious Right has no problem with her, why does the supposedly "progressive" left hate her so thoroughly? You'd think she'd be the embodiment of their dream - a strong, liberated woman who kicks butt, has a nice family, and a very powerful job.

But, oh, that's right - she's a conservative, which is what really matters.

Wait....does this mean that gender doesn't really matter anymore, and that it's just political stances and policies that are important? ;) That'd be the implication here. But somehow, I don't think that lesson will stick around when it's a liberal woman running for office; I'll bet you anything cries of "Sexism!" will be aroused if she receives 1/10th the criticism Palin has.

Seems like Palin is just another member of the PC brigade too... I turned off the speech as soon as she called her ****** "special needs".

Special needs is a polite way of saying "I didn't get my miscarriage on that long flight from Texas to Alaska"

I wouldn't call it fear. But yea, there is a lot of hate. And I don't get it. Look at all this crap on the OT in the past days. Saying she not the mom, attacking her daughters looks, calling her a bad mom ect ect.

I know people don't agree with her political veiws, but this seems to go way beyond that. Why so mean?

Because leftys, while crying about tolerance, are the most intolerant people on the planet.

Regardless, it occured to me: Why all of this hate? Not just from individuals (One comment on my facebook says: "I'M A F---KING REDNECK AND IM GONNA BE THE VICE PRESIDENT YEEHAW MOOSE TIME"), but from the liberal blogs, and the media.

*sniff sniff* I smell fear.

Do you?

You had the exact same thought as me. I mean this women was a virtual unknown by the entire nation 7 days ago and then as soon as she's named VP candidate everyone under the sun suddenly wants to attack her like she did something wrong, yet they knew nothing about her 7 days ago and still don't know very much about her.

My innitial reaction to all this hate is the same as yours. It has to be fear.

At any rate all this bitter hate out of the blue does NOT help their cause or their own candidate. And if it keeps up it just might push me to the other side. So much for "changing the way we do politics", "crossing party lines", considering Washington outsiders a "good thing" and "changing Washington."

I'm ready for a 3rd party to rise to the top and put Democrats and Republicans in their place.

As for Palin herself and her speech, I think she balances out the McCain ticket perfectly. McCain is the Commander In Chief expert and she is the domestic executive expert. Her speech on domestic policy regarding the economy, energy, and jobs, was very compelling in my humble and honest opinion.

By the way one other thing I'd like to point out, is seeing the passion in her eyes about her handicapped child, one could also argue she has a greater insentive to push a health care agenda. Thus she could make health care a central issue for her in the campaign. If this happens, she could take away one of the Democrat's strongest campaigning points and make it a strength for her own ticket, as she has personal ties with the need for it, and the reputation (from what little I have seen) to make it happen. Which is another reason I think the far left seems to be behaving so spiteful and fearful regarding the election. Their fear of losing the election seams to be increased because of her.
