Anybody cares to discuss things related to these SSI games? I just got People's General, and it rulez!

But most sleepless nights were caused to me by Panzer General (the first one...) :D

I played the hell out of Panzer General. I have PGII, but never got into it, nor Allied General or any of the other later games from that series.

Panzer general is actually one of the 3 games I have installed on my comouter even though I haven't played it in years. I bet I could jump right back into it too. I must have played every scenario every way just to see what path it would take me down. I even had it worked out where I could play the maximum number of battles and still attack the US. You have to lose a few on purpose to do this, but it gave your troops some hellish experience. It definately changes the game when your starting core of troops are all five stars. :)

I LOVE PG2!!!
Peoples General is pretty cool to.

I hated some of the later units in peoples general though. A stealth tank that can be loaded on a chopper? Gimme a break.

PG2 don't work on my computer, I haven't played a game of that in three years!!!! If anyone knows how to fix this problem I will be very grateful. THe program loads up fine but once I get to the main menu the mouse cursor disapears. :(

SSI has been completly useless in helping me out

PS. Is PG 3D any good?

Whiskey Priest: (cool name ;) )

If PeG works, PG2 should work as well: almost the same engine...

Did you try to install a new driver for your mouse? Or get a PS/2 or serial mouse? (I mean the other type you have...) :)

I remember having similar problems when I last looked at the game a year or so ago. The game would boot up, but I couldn't open the stupid doors that show the credits and let you start the game. I know I tried lots of things, focusing on the mouse driver (as Bretwalda said), but IIRC, in the end I just hit return to open the doors and then the cursor came up as normal. I can't tell you if it was a combination of the driver changes, or what, but that's the solution I remember.

...then you definately, DEFINATELY need to check out Pacific General... the last of the five-star series of games.

Out of the box, it wasn't all that great, but over time, it's been moded and it's now a FREE game... it's everything PG1 should have been and more.

Graphics aren't all that glitzy, but gameplay is top-notch and deeper than PG1.

For those of you saying "I want to play in Europe, not the Pacific", there are FULL custom campaigns available to play in Europe, and you can make your own scenarios and campaigns, using the Russians, Germans, English, French, Italians, Japanese, Americans, and a host of other countries.

One of the most popular campaigns for Pacific General is the "Z-Plan" campaign, played from the German side... not only do the Germans get to invade Poland, Norway, France and England, but with the addition of the advanced Pacific General naval rules, you get to use CORE NAVAL UNITS for Germany, and can have such ships as the Bismarck and Tirpitz sailing up the the coast of England and menacing the US Navy. Matchups such as the Bismarck's vs the Iowas, and yes, core U-Boats of course!

This game is FULLY customizeable, and best of all, it is now FREE to download!

I have played in PG1-2-3, Star General and Fantasy General. :) Cool games, and PG1-2 is the best in this serie. PG3 is the worst, I think - I have played in it in Celeron300 machine with 64M RAM and this was not game, but a auto-hand-brake. Now I have a powerful comp but I don't want to replay completely...

PG1 was one of the greatest games of all time. I thought they made a big mistake in reducing the scale for PG2. The game looked better, but I liked being in charge of an entire front, not just a small part of it.

PacificG was great too.

A great series. Used to be you could trust SSI 100%.
