does anyone remember buying cities with diplomats?
Or the $&^#@! senate

force accept the peace treaty my foot! I never played anything but communism in Civ1

I'm another one who started with the original Civ boardgame. It was one of the staples of my gaming groups when I was in the AF.

BTW, this would be my first post on the board. I just recently got back to playing Civ3 and found this site while browsing the net.

My uncle let me play a game of Civ II when I was nine or ten years old and I played as the Indians. My two size seven cities (one I renamed 'Jericho') were conquered and I lost. I was hooked. I asked to borrow it, and since you don't need the CD to play Civ II, I kept on playing even after returning the CD. He let me install the scenarios and fantastic worlds CDs too. That game was played by me ever since (seventeen now). I received Civ III for Christmas (12/2001), PTW for my birthday (11/2002), and Conquests for my next birthday (11/2003). Thus, I've acquired the games which fuel my biggest addiction ever for free. Thanks to my family! ;) I occasionally go back to Civ II (I sometimes get into one of those moods), but now it's Civ III: Conquests (nearly every day played).

I started last year around christmas time when I got civ 3 as a gift. The mania then spread like wildfire.

monocle? are you insisting we are classy people, because I think your wrong...

ANyways, I got Civ I think for christmas when I was in... 2002? I got the expansions later, but I never really got attached until about 2 years ago... Now I love it.

Yes, I admit, I am Civ Fanatic! :D I started at 22nd December 2002 with original (basic) Civ III. :) I'm willing to cure myself but this addiction is too powerfull and my will is too weak.

The Atari version of Civ in '92 (or possibly '93, don't remember). The first time were actually on a PC, at a friend's house, but he got tired of me wanting to play Civ all the time. ;)
As I had an Atari I couldn't borrow his disks to play, so I had to go buy it myself, first computer game I ever bought since the ones I played before that came with the computer.
I went to CivII as soon as it came out, then CivIII in the same way, but after that school came in the way too much. I only recently started playing again, and I'm so going to buy Conquests!

I got Civ I on a flopy disk for my Mac Powerbook in the Halcyon days of College. Dropped out while vagabonding after school and before the "career". Got CivII around 2000. Wife made me quit around '02. I snuck a copy of C3C onto the machine a few months ago when she was on an extended business trip. She caught me playing, but then she got "The Feevah" and is now hooked on the Civ-smack worse than I am.

Nah... I was just trying to make Civ nerdiness seem like it was actually classiness! :mischief: :D

Oh, by the way, thanks to whoever added the Civ Non PC and Civ 2 Playstation choices! :goodjob: I'm a PC'er, so never would have though (or known) of that! :scan:

Interesting that not a single soul has voted that they started on Call to Power. I guess only us Civ veterans would have been suckered into buying it... (like I was) :whipped:

You're welcome. ;)

I appreciate that, Turner 727. So... It was you! The one monocled man! :hatsoff: Wait a minute... who would have more than one monocle? :coffee:

Cheers!

Wow, looks like the majority started with Civ1. Sid has created a cult almost as strong as Star-Wars or Star-Trek! :king:

Maybe I should have added Alpha Centauri to the polls... :hmm: Nah, it's more like an "after building the space ship in Civ" game. :borg:

Ok, ok, I admit it! I'm a Civ'aholic! :help:

Not sure how long ago but I played Civilization on the Super Nintendo, it was right before Civ2 came out, when we bought our first PC we bought Civ2 and I have been playing a civ game of some type on the PC ever since... I played civ2 like and addict, then played SMAC like and addict but never got "hooked" with Civ3 until recently...

They must lace heroine in the Civ code somewhere, eh? I can go half a year then get a craving for Civ... :king:

So Sargon, how's that volcano in Washington state doing? :wow:

Mt. St. Helens had a very tiny eruption (just a wee bit of smoke) and is now more active than the scientists thought it would be. Nothing to worry about.

I know it wasn't directed to me, but I couldn't help it. Perhaps he'll offer more info.

When I was young I found an old Snes with Civ1, didnt really get the game then later I tried it on an old 3.1 computer. Never left it after that

Arrrr, believe it or not I got started on Call to Power, back in the late 90's or 00 or so. My girlfriend back then actually pressured me to play civ (did she know me or what), she thought I would love it. That one could get me to do anything, so I got CTP, simply not knowing what I was doing. I regret that those clowns at Activision got my money, even as a noob I could tell something wasn't right with that thing. Eventually I got on the right track, I got Civ II (from the library!) to practice while awaiting the release of Civ III, got it the first day I saw it. So, does that make this a love story?
BTW- I doubt I'd still be civving if it weren't for the Forum. It's the worldwide competition/discussion that keeps me coming back.
