I started with Civ I for Mac, in 1994. I wanted to tret myself to a graduation present and being a history major, the game caught my eye. I haven't looked back... unless of course there were Mongols chasing me.
Okay, so I'm a little paranoid because of Civ, but it's an excellent trade-off.
Started with Civ3 and got instantly assimilated into the Civ world. Last year a girlfriend ditched me because of that - i was spending too much time on Civ and so i wasn't enough with her :suicide:
Since that event, i force myself not to play too much, but it's difficult
Civ2 in '96 or 97. A friend got it, but didn't have time to learn it, so gave it to me. I went home, installed it, and played the tutorial right away. Got crushed by the Japanese though. I still had galleons and phalanxs in my cities and was getting attacked by mech infantry and stealth bombers! good times.
Civ 1 on my buddy's PC in the early 90s... I had been a big fan of Microprose flight sims (Gunship, GS2000, F-117) since the Commodore 64 days so I had heard of it before. First time I played it, I was up all night. My frosh year in college, a guy on my floor had the SNES version and I got re-hooked. I never did finish a game in Civ 1 but when I bought my first computer in college Civ 2 was one of the first games I bought and it's been ugly ever since...
I found the game on a friend's comp. Played it all night. That would have been around 94 or 95. He didn't like it as much as I did. I bought the Explorer's pack with Civ/Colonization but couldn't figure out colonization. Since then, i've got Civ II and Civ III.
Civilization was my first computer game. I was amazed that you could invent a game with such a vast scope and play it on the computer. I can still remember the opening sequence of the game. I played it for ever until I mastered the hardest level with no help from the internet, unlike today. I stayed up way too late and got in trouble at work for poor performance.
A relative told me about civ2, I tried it out without having a manual or anything to help. I didn't notice the help file either so I had to figure out everything about the game through experimentation. Nevertheless I managed to learn the game and I have been playing ever since. When civ3 came out I of course bought that also.
i started with the original civ board game about 15 years ago. still a good game by the way though i cant play it because i lost the instructions when i got my first pc the friend who i played the board game with recommended civ II for me so i got it and got pretty hooked. i started civ III less than a year ago.
