Patch incoming

Didn't see it mentioned yet...my new game that I started post-patch, my worker doesn't have the "build road to" button any more

Yeah, the SDK still hasn't been updated. I'm hoping they'll update everything next week when BMW comes out, but I'm not holding my breath too much.

We will be releasing the SDK with BNW next week, no worries. :)

If you have existing save points for these issues, we would love to take a look. Additionally, please let us know if this is something encountered only in saves, or if you see this in a new fresh game as well.

Where would I send my save file? Could achievements be impacted by the new patch as well?

haha, I don't think we should be too surprised. For me this means that I will probably be able to sleep a little more the next week or so if I can't play :)

oh, and it would be cool to play the two versions of France. I guess France won't change in Gods and Kings?

And now its there. I swear, it wasn't before. It was a fresh turn, worker had plenty of points available (all of them), there was an unconnected city nearby...

*sigh*

My game ran smoothly prior to the patch. I was unaware it was coming today, and, a few hours into a heavy session, the game crashed to desktop. Immediately, the Steam update window popped up, and I just assumed Steam needed the game closed to finish pushing out the update. No worries, autosave is your friend. Until I tried to start it back up again. I posted the following in the bug report forum, but figured I'd include it, seeing as people from Fireaxis are here, posting in this thread. This is a reply to a post detailing some issues with the cursor returning from its "load state" after loading has completed:

The Recognition said:
I've noticed this quite a bit. Talked to some other people and the common thread between a lot of the issues seemed to be running the game in Windows 8.

On top of this issue, I've experienced:
  • Failing to automatically exit the leader diplomacy screen after saying your goodbyes. Exit completes only after hitting the escape key. Animated scene will continue to play indefinitely if action not taken. Said animations are incredibly creepy when left to run on the screen by themselves for more than thirty seconds.
  • Crashes to desktop. Frequently.
  • Error code 55 attempting to load the game from Steam, as well as from desktop shortcut. Running SteamService seemed to help. For a bit.
  • Time loading the next turn has been cut dramatically in my late game, marathon speed, huge map game. From the time it says it has loaded, though, there is still a bunch of actions yet to take place, i.e. AI moves, notification popups, & c.

It is frusssstrating.

e: And my latest save is over the attached file limit. Reply if interested.

Seeing as the complexities of maintaining cohesive multiplayer with a release as fractured as this are apparently vast, one would assume adding mods to the picture would increase complexity exponentially.

e: So like, pretty hard, I guess?

I haven't played regular CIV 5 without a mod for quite a while. I just hate how it's nothing but a war game compared to older CIV games. This patch has broke my mod though.

Is it still a war game or is the AI more sane now?

Just tried it again with a brand new game, I am still not able to get any achievements with this patch. I am using no mods.

Steam wont even download the patch for me...how do i get it to download the patch? After reading these posts, do I even want to download the patch?

I would avoid it until they get these issues sorted out. Not sure how widespread they are, but from what I've experienced it's been enough to prevent me from being able to play. Hence the fiddling around on forums.

Is it still buggy? I can't get past the poor, too busy Steam servers to find out for myself. Just as well, I guess. I leave this Sunday for a week long vacation and won't get to play BNW until I get back. Maybe everything(including the BNW bugs) will be fixed by then.

So this has been strange, I have gotten a chance to play a couple times today, I am playing with vanilla (no mods) + DLC civs.

Earlier the worker icon and several of the unit icons were updated when I loaded the game I had been playing pre-patch. I was playing in the modern era, and I did get the bug where the diplomacy screen froze and it caused me to crash. The turns were running super fast as well, and I went ahead and finished off that game, and played the first 80 turns or so of the next game.

So I loaded up my save a couple hours ago, and the new unit icons were gone. The turn times, while improved from a couple days ago, were not nearly as fast.
I didn't notice any other problems, so I blew through another 50 turns or so, going for a domination victory.

Then it happened.
The worker.. Stopped.. Working.. So I guess that bug is back, at least for me.
So that is frustrating. I don't know if they were able to change the game without actually doing another patch, or how that works really, but I would really like to play the game I saw 12 hours ago, the new icons were cool, the workers worked, and it was really fast. The game I was playing a couple hours ago, not so much. Most annoying though is having to give the same order to a worker every turn, it can get very tedious.

Anyways, here is the save, in case I'm crazy. If I load it up and hit next turn I immediately see the problem, with the worker trying to clear the forest and build a plantation to connect spices.

I was able to get around this by running Steam Service. Make sure Steam is closed and run:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\Steamservice.exe /Install
Attempt to run the game again after it finishes.

Note: The path to your game files may vary slightly depending on where the game is installed.
