Becuase a whole lot of people work on Thanksgiving........
i would think somebody would have to work over thanksgiving after this screwup, unless of course it will only take one day to fix....its too bad, things just going from bad to worse for them. i can only see this as igniting ppl who are already angry. i would hate to be a firaxian right now. :(

Or they was trying to test the update option on civ to see if it works. they didn't imagine we got people hit the update option 24 hours a day waiting to download the patch.

 thats true too :D

*click**click**click**click**Update Found**OMFGWWFBBQ**Downloading**Cancelled**(breaths in) MMMOOOTTTHHHEEERRRR FFF.................*

I got the patch and it fixed my graphics glitch that was only showing the toast resource and not the hammer and coin. :)

It's it nice to get a bit of excitement like this every now and then? Firaxis are a great bunch of people, they are providing us with out-of-game entertainment. This is the sort of thing people get excited about in MMORPGs, right?

would someone who did get the patch like to post a screenshot of the foreign advisor screen? Is it different?

Firaxis had nothing to do with letting a bug slip through...T2 Q&A handles testing...they would be the ones who gave their okay. The Devs would not know of any issues hence could not ifx them unless Q&A caught it.

They are allowed to play the game though right? Just because it is "someone elses" job, it doesn't mean that you can't play the game to give it a once over before sending it for thorough testing? Things like clicking the start button and playing a quick game - perhaps modding a map and the like?

Wow. A patch recall. More and more I am reminded of the fiasco surrounding Dynamix with all the troubles they had getting Tribes 2 patched and the ensuing disaster that turned out to be.

Exactly. I think we all got more of a kick out of this than playing Civ4 tonight... well... maybe not that much...

There is only one issue with the patch that I saw, and that is that some units cannot be moved on the turn they finish in. Did not seem like a big deal to me.

Was working so I wasn't online during the one hour the patch was available. Had to get it from people in the gamespy lobby. Only just came here to post how badly it sucks.

hhehehehehe, I love it. The name "Firaxis" will always make me smile now ... what a bunch of bungling fools. Great game ... big fiasco.

I think we should stop speculating till Firafix comments on what happened.
For me, the patch works fine. And I can see my hammers and coins.
The game seems to get some pace too, I did not get long lags even when it was creating a game.

What ever. I never got crashes with v1.0 and v1.08 gives me CTDs all the time.
This happen to me also until I clean out the cache files ( I think that what call them.) after that even the worldbuilder works. So this meant I had to reinstall the mods and maps I downloaded. I would wait for the final patch since I may have to reinstall everything again. Also don't load 1.0 saved games. I having trouble loading them. (if you don't want to delete them just move them to desktop)

I'm curious to see who's bungle it was... To my mind, it would be more likely that Take2 would be hosting the update server, as it is publishers who should be controlling the distribution of everything that goes to the public sphere.

If it WAS Firaxis' fault, then it could be that they were testing their update software and someone got lucky. This doesn't fit in line with what the mods have being saying though (the 'a bug slipped through' story).

Again concerning whether old saves will work: Does the patch modify the tech cost for a game already in progress? I'm about to hit the Industrial Age in a game, but I will wait to play it if I can get the changed tech rates.

So they accidently let a patch out prematurely. Big deal. Everyone's going all crazy over it. In a month no one will care.
