Patch is useless

Why does the patch install to the C: drive and not actually look to see where the game is located? I have mine on a D: storage drive and there is no option to select the drive to intall the patch. This is BS. We're talking about a basic windows prompt that allows the patch to be installed to the correct location. I'm fed up with the [Deleted] clowns at Firaxis. Does anyone know if simply overwriting the files from the C: drive to the D: drive will work or if the cab files are actually unzipped as part of the process? What a joke.

If you think it's useless for those reasons just wait untill you get the game goin.

To solve; try putting the .exe patch file into your game directory.

Damn you Kudos. You're supposed to openly flame and mock this individual for his blatant intolerance towards a great game.

Your reply on the otherhand was logical and intelligent. I hate it when people post stuff like that. :D

I've run the patch from the correct drive and folder and tried both install methods. It's in the code man. They're idiots. Now I need a patch for the patch?

I don't think trolling would solve any problems (yes, even if you are frustrated). I think you would get more responces from people who know what to do if you explained your problem calmly . . .

Try temporarily mounting the d: drive as a directory under c:\ instead of as a driveletter. You can do this from the control panel (Adminstrative tools/comp managment/disk management). Don't do this if there are (windows) system files in use on your d: drive.

I have a storage drive, not a partition. I've clearly stated my problem and if you think I'm a troll then you should peruse the threads more closely, moderator.

I don't understand what you mean Civisist. The D: drive is a separate logical IDE drive.

I used the game's update method, so the game downloaded it to it's installed directory.

Moderator Action: I have, and that is why you got warned for your language. Typically there is a sollution for every problem, and if you go as far as calling people [fourletterword] clowns and idiots, than that is trolling.

I have the game installed on my external drive and the patch installed with no problem.

Initially I installed the patch when the game was on my C drive (thru the game itself). However, to make room on the C drive, I uninstalled the game and installed it onto my external drive (after copying the patch to another folder), I copied the patch back into the Civ4/Civ4Patch folder and ran the patch from there.

I'm not sure exactly how you ran the patch, but I am just passing this info on as a possible help.

I've run the install from the game menu. It still defaults to C: drive. How did you get yours to load Snepp? Did you get a prompt or did it just load to E: automatically?

I didn't realize before that you were talking about a completely different drive. My e: drive is a partition on my first HD, not a second drive as in your case.

For what it's worth though, it loaded correctly without any additional prompting of any kind.
