patch screws up everything!

i bought civ 4 i dont know how long ago, its been awhile. so i play it for a month then uninstalled it for about 5 months, got a new computer and i want to play it again so i go out and buy BtS to make it more fun.

i installed civ 4 then right after that i try to install BtS but it says its "A new version of Sid Meier's Civilization IV is out. Preparing to patch" then about 30 secs later it says "patch failded to install" "abort installation"

WTH do i do to get it to install?

If it is civ 4 and not gold edition: try uninstalling and reinstalling civ4 then patch that to 1.74 and then install BtS...

to uninstall it i just go to add and remove programs right? and the install it again. but how do i patch that to 1.74?

go to the faraxis website and download patch 1.6something

Actually the Firaxis website is out of date by a year or so. The 1.74 patch can be downloaded here you may also need the DirectX 9c from Microsoft linked there as well.
