I noticed people are having problems with the new patch and things disappearing from their map, trees forest, resources etc.

My map is fine but something I've noticed is when I go to a city screen it no longer is showing what resources my city has access to, wheat, wine, sheep, etc (in the list on the right hand side, they still show on the fat cross city map). Has anyone else noticed this or have a fix for it? I loaded some games I played prior to the patch and they are no longer listed in there either. If anyone could give me a hand with this I'd really appreciate it. Hope I explained everything well enough so people know what I'm talking about.

(A short disclaimer, I haven't played since before Christmas so there's some chance I may have completely imagined that this list of resources the city had access to )

Thanks
T

I'm having an issue after installing the new patch, also. When I go to the research tech-tree, it no longer hilights my selection when I choose a tech. And when I try to set up a tech queue, I can't keep track of what's selected since it's not hilighted with # of turns to completion as it was before. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Has anyone else had weird Statistical results after installing the 1.61 patch?

I can NEVER win a battle against the Aztec Empire if they are on the same continent.

For example - I can have 2 cannons, 3 musket men, and 4 Calvary in a walled city. The Aztec Empire will destroy all of them with 2 macemen. What gives!!? (yes I do have baracks, and veteran units)

Weird thing is this only happens on any of my AMD systems (Athlon 64 3000+ 2 gigs ram - OCZ HP(DDR400), and AMD Sempron 2600+ 1 gig ram - Corsair XMS (DDR 333) ), and when I am on the same continent as the Aztec. I do not seem to have this bug on my one old Intel Desktop. I have also noticed when an incomming unit (does not matter what) heads towards your cities, sometimes your defensive units will be deleted. I have only seen this twice though on my Sempron. I did not test long at all on my intel system.

Either way I have finially uninstalled the game off the last machine I tried it on, and hopefully next patch will fix some of these crazy problems. Otherwise I may as well sell the game on Ebay or something.

I guess back to Civ 3, since Civ 2 does not run on XP pro, and civ 1 is just, well - old now.

<modified content> FYI this is in "warrior" level

Twitch: to access the resources, you need to build something atop of them with your worker (e.g. gold needs mine, wheat needs irrigation, etc.). Plus, make sure that the resource is connected to your city with a road. If you meet this reqs and still think you got a problem, post a savegame / screenshot.

Nishdog: never heard of such problem. Is this regular game or some mod? Perhaps also a savegame or screenshot would help.

Schro: Come on! You've had some bad luck but you will beat them next time. Macemen with city raider promotions could have effectively doubled their offensive strength, cavalries are really ill-suited to defend as they don't receive defensive bonuses (neither cannons do I think). You should have tried to attack with them... you know, they have a chance to retreat from a lost battle, but only on the offense...

I have noticed that, since installing 1.61 (from 1.09), some of the battle animations don't work properly, in that the component of the animation where one of my units loses a battle is often skipped: the unit just disappears, instead of being visibly slain. This did not happen before.

Also, the zoom to combat does not seem to work (although it did not seem to work before, either). I have unchecked the "no combat zoom" box, and, whilst it occasionally zooms in to combat, most of the time it does nothing, and sometimes it zooms out. Very odd.

@Twitch1977 and Nishdog

You haven't got any mods from pre-1.61 in your custom assets folder have you? Most cases I've heard where problems developed on updating to 1.61 were from old incompatible mods.

@Schrodinger: Sounds like exaggeration of bad luck to me. I doubt there's a genuine issue here. Difficulty level doesn't affect combat against the AI, but in any case there isn't a difficulty level called "warrior".

@Jamespetts: 1.61 made further tweaks to the memory usage, which seem to have made wonder movies and combat animations run worse for some people. I'm afraid I have nothing to suggest here though.

MrCynical: I'm not certain if I have any pre 1.61 mods, but I have a hunch I do. Which folder(s) should I check in to see if I do? I have a custom assets folder in my Civ4 game directory and also in My Documents folder. Do you think it would be easier if I just uninstall and reinstall the whole game?

Uninstalling and reinstalling is always a good option. Make sure to manually delete all civ folders after uninstalling to make sure that everything is really gone.

Check in both of them, and remove anything in them. In an unmodded game they should both be empty. A clean reinstall would also clear out any mods.

IMHO the game slows down and the movies explode at certain stages despite patching. CIV 4 uses a lots of memory - most I've seen - and I'm ready to accept that I just need more and better hardware?

Well, you can try to free as many resources as possible before launching Civ (by closing all unnecessary programs, such as antivirus, instant messengers,...). You can also play Civ at minimum settings (without movies, audio, details, animations,...) to enhance the gameplay. And you can play smaller maps.

Anyone know if you can uninstall a patch,

I like lost the ability to create Sam Infantry during the patch.

Game to my knowledge ran great up to that point....

Suppose its possible, not likely. In addition I lost navy seals. Suppose this means re-install scratch the patch unless someone knows how to uninstall the Patch (very loosly speaking ).

In addition to loosing basic units, things like grouped navel units have just dissapeared in the ocean.

I run an amd box w 3 gigs of ram if it matters.

Marines, SAM Infantry and Navy Seals now all upgrade to mechanized infantry, and hence will go obsolete and become unavailable to build once mechs are available.

Are you sure you're not just looking in the wrong place? Or having the graphics play up?

I don't think you actually have any bugs here.

MrCynical,

Thanks for the info, that kinda bites, but good info, liked civ III a bit more because there were hella more units to mess with, again thanks. It is listed on the civ4 site under the patch info.

On the navel thing a navy seal popped up in the ocean on a transport that i had grouped with a destroyer, first and only time i have ever seen that. I said sleep. There were 2 seals, a modern armor, and a mech infantry on the transport.

They were headed to the last jap city on the map and isolated small island in the south.

Ended turn went to check their progress and poof they were gone made a whole new group and sent them after the japs.

Since I updated to v1.61, some things have dissappeared, namely resources and upgrades. On every tile, all I can see is the base terrain. I cannot see terrain features (Forest, oasis, etc). I cannot see resources, and I cannot see anything I build on them. I CAN still see roads. I googled it, found one other case of this problem, no answer. I mailed the 2kgames support, no answer yet. I can still play the game with the highligth resources button on, and looking in the bottom-left to see what terrain features, but this is very annoying. Any advice?

This is a deliberate anti-piracy measure which will kick in if you use a no-cd crack or a pirated copy of the game. Don't use these if you want the game to work.
