I have a downloaded (legal) version of Civ 4 from FilePlanet's Direct2Drive service. When I try to install the patch, it tells me "The setup has detected that no version of Sid meier's Civilization 4 is installed. The update requires that a previous version of the application be installed."

Has anyone else seen this problem, and perhaps know a workaround?

Thanks in advance!

You need to get a special version of the patch from Direct2Drive. It may take several days for this to be available.

 I just bought the game today - and after two hours of trying to install the patch, and then DLing it from other locations, I find that if you purchased and D/L'd the game online you have to wait for special patches?
I want my $50.00 back - the reason I purchased the game was so I could enjoy it with friends etc online. This is unsat.

this is a quote from direct2drive website:
"Where do I get patches for the game I bought from Direct2Drive?
You must use patches we provide for Direct2Drive games. Outside files cannot be used to patch Direct2Drive games."

you have no one to blame but your self
