One of the most confusing aspects of playing Civ III (especially for new players), is the constant screen jumping from unit to unit without time to read and evaluate what is happening. It would be GREAT if Civ IV added a Pause Key or a Single-Step mode so that you can take your time evaluating what is happening. The larger the empire, the more that happens before you ever get a chance to respond.
A Single-Step mode would be ideal. It would allow you to take as much time as you need to evaluate the current event, and then single-step to the next event / unit, one-by-one.
Same is true for the constant Pop-ups. You see that a city in going into disorder, BUT, you have to make answer a dozen or so pop-up messages first before you can get back and try and remember what city was in trouble. Why not add a Pop-Up Queue that would stack up the requests and place them somewhere with a pull-down menu. Then, the user would have the time to fix other problems immediately, THEN, go back and answer the Pop-Up questions before proceeding to the next turn.
