PBEM DD14: Genie’s Bottle

I guess I'm just too peaceful a player, but I'm tryinig to declare war on a human player and there's no option anywhere on the diplomatic screen...do I have to attack them to start a war?

you can attack them, but that might hurt your rep(not sure about that though).
you can also cancel the peace treaty, which you'll find on active deals

who's your lucky victim?

The vote war 3 for Deny, 1 for Calis and 1 for Knutis.

Dammit I should have gone for prebuild on the UN. I thought the AI liked me so much that I could try for the spaceship while you to were mobilizing for war across the pond. My military build-up was a defensive one as I had very little ground units. I was showing off my carrier and BB to make you think twice about trying to send an invasion fleet south. Guess it didn't have quite that effect.
I had something like 4 panzers and fewer Mech inf. My Ancient Cavalry wouldn't have done much good I think

Actually, it was your gifting of Egyptian & Korean cities that gave me the idea that you were heading for the UN and that I would need to beat you to it. I had a mini-stack (8 AC) heading to eliminate Egypt when I noticed the additional Egyptian city. My original plan was to take Cleo out, then after getting Korea's Modern Era tech wipe them out and try to beat everyone to space. After the tech race in the Industrial Age, I wasn't sure I'd be able to do that, so the UN build (Plan B) kind of fell into my lap. Getting a SGL when I got Mass Production (#3 in the game for me) made the planning a lot easier. My military was primarily defensive (mostly Infantry then Mech Infantry) with about 20 Panzers for counter attacks. The amount of land you had down there kind of had me worried you might go communist and be able to out produce everyone and run over both northern tribes. I also was quite fearful of nukes as the game got farther along.

Thanks to everyone who played for a very fun game.

Well, congratz on your victory.

Your early luck with an SGL for the Pyramids made it a lot easier to achieve.

Maybe you should consider to modify the Pyramids in future games, as they are much more imbalancing as the SoZ and Knights Templar, which you modified in (almost?) every game.

Also in this game the tech pace was extremely fast. It's too bad that at least 2 of the chosen 3 unique units are obsolete before you can use them. I had no other choice than attacking the Egypts with a Cossack to get a Golden Age.

maybe leave the SGL out would be the best thing as they leave too much of the game's outcome to luck. You build UN with one right?
I was planning on bombing Terminus next turn and with some success there I could just might have beat you to it.

I got 1 SGL myself, but I wasted it on The Sistine Chapel. It was while I was still toying with the idea of a 1city culture win.
What can I say, I like a challenge :)
