level of game - monarch?
ideally - 4 human, 4 AI.
level of players - all welcome, but probably a good idea if you know which way the spear points
basic rule - HUMANS ARE AT ALWAYS WAR.

id like to have human-AI-H-AI-H-AI-H-AI spacing.
this seems to best fit the land (long and narrow)
open for other ideas, so lets discuss this a bit....

you can trade on the FIRST TURN you meet a new civ. at the end of that turn WAR IS DECLARED!
i would also add a NO TRADING EVER between HUMANS.
but id like votes on that.

arathorn's variant rules for AW said:Always War (AW): When you meet an opponent (as soon as they appear on the F2/F4/Shift-D diplomacy screen, youve met them), you must declare war on them THAT turn. You can make initial deals for hard goods only (no gpt deals, no alliances, no resource/luxury trades). Opening the diplomacy window to spy techs, cities, resources, etc. is allowed. Signing peace for even a single turn is prohibited.
Arathorns comments: Adds about 1.5-2 difficulty levels. Games usually take significantly longer. Once youre past the Can I hold my front? stage and making progress forward, its usually won. Approximately doubles the time required to play.
