pbem 'Lambda' proposed v1.61

Those two axemen are moving off to the east. It probably seems like they are hanging around because one started off on the west side of your city.

The war against Rome is very much one of attrition.

And Rome seems to have first bite.

As night falls, we lose our second Horse Archer to them.

Very cleverly, my cities with barracks are producing buildings.

I saw the praetorian with my scouting warrior. This indeed looks to be a bloody war. I will try to scout for you if I can.

Cumae falls.

Following timely tips in the Strategy thread yesterday, I bombarded with 4 cats, and sacrificed a fifth, before taking the city.

But the overall approach, siege, and conquest cost me a highly promoted sword as well as three horse archers.

Ptolemy founds an Academy in Bureaucratic London, but our research rate is still pathetic.

The Chinese would like to congratulate the English on another fine victory over the Romans. Our scouts don't see anymore praetorians in the immediate vicinity.

The Chinese would like to congratulate the English on completing the Hanging Gardens. What a magnificent wonder!

That was actually my first civ4 Wonder ever....

The English, fresh to Wonders, and consequently (?) also the statistics screen, realise they are late to this world, and likewise congratulate the Chinese on their magnificent achievements, unnoticed at a time when congratulations might have sounded somewhat fresher....

We approach Aretium (?) and overrun an archer outside the city.
It seems suspiciously lightly defended.
Next turn we shall conquer it, and hopefully also pillage the Romans source of Iron chuckle, chuckle...

Looking around us, it slowly dawns that this is a dreadful location without redeeming features, and should have been razed. Too late...

The Spanish invite us to a war with the Egyptians.

Epic deeds surround the fall of Rome.
A suicide cat, given 0.2% odds against a longbowman, successfully retreats.
A thrice promoted city raiding swordsmen, with an 88% chance against a weakened archer, dies in ignominy.

As Rome invited us.

Santiago will be taken as the Brits seem preoccupied and we need to clear our flanks. Of course, we are always the businessmen in this business.
