PCI card to get connected to the internet

Hi all.

I want to add a wifi PCI card in my desktop to be able to use internet without having to hook up an internet cable. But I don't know the jargon so I don't know which card should I buy.

I have found a couple of cards over the internet, one is $21.95 but I don't know if It will allow me to make a wireless internet conection. Here it is.

The other one is more expensive, $71. but it seem that does what I want, and maybe more things that I am not going to use, so It might be too much for me.

So, Will the first one work as I intended, or should I buy the second one?

Do you know another one that might meet my needs?

Read reviews on the cards--especially user reviews. Newegg.com usually has a wealth of user reviews on its products. The things that I've read suggest that signal strength and dropped signals can be an issue with some cards. The other suggestion that I would have (and this is purely anecdotal) is buy the same brand for your router and adapter. I've bougth Linksys for years and would be reluctant to switch because of the success that I've had with them.

The router is from the local cable company.

So, are the two of them valid for what I want? The Ethernet thing they talk about in the first one confuses me. Is ethernet cable and internet cable the same thing? or I am coining new computer lingo?

If your router supports wireless, either card should be up to the task. Assuming that the wireless protocol it supports is 802.11g. If it only supports 'B' (802.11b), then you will have to look for a card that supports that. But most newer routers support G.

Ethernet cable is what you probably think of as "internet cable".
