I have noticed, that when you propose a peace treaty, even if you are losing, the AI's will give you any cities thy have, despite anything else, UNLESS you put something else on the table. Has anyone else seen this?

This is the old gripe about the AI being no longer capable to trade for cities. So, they can hand tehm over for peace, but once you offer something else it's considered trading - no deal.

AI city trading is a bit wrong... I might sometimes demand a city for peace, and have it, but generally, city trading is no good.

Without patches, it was clearly an exploit: take a nice city of AI, sign peace, trade the city for 6-8 other cities, retake the empty city, repeat...

As it is now, however, city trading is useless completely, as the AI will never offer a thing for cities.

I do, though, see that making the AI understand whether to accept city trades, etc., must be one of the hardest parts of AI programming.

yeh but they will quite gladly accept cities

the other day i got a city by culture and then just gave t back to them as they were furious and i had only just come out of a big war with someone else

I kinda wish they made it an option again. I never used to exploit the city trading in the unpatched game and actually thought it was one of the better features of Civ3. I'm not saying they should make it the default, just give us the option to mod it in the editor.
