Pelet guns are awesome!

I have the same problem with squirrels , sometimes MORE
than tempting .

Yeah, squirrels are bad where I live. I usually let my dog try to settle any disputes that exist between the squirrels and me. That usually just ends up with my dog feeling lazy and stop chasing them after 200 yds. :)

Why do people keep saying "pelet" and suggesting it's a BB? Am I missing something, is it a US trademark?

In the UK, pellet means a lead shot, fired at high velocity, by compressed air... used to hunt deer, pheasants, etc. (blood sports) ... or at a lower velocity, at tiny targets (competition).

A pellet is normally made of lead, and has a specialist shape. The tip is optimised for the target (might be pointed, round, or flat), and the tail is to maximise pressure ussage and to increase accuracy... they are fired down a rifled barrel and can be lethal. The weapons cost anything from £50 to £5000. The guns have no distinguising features, but often come with working scope, or laser-sight, because they are used for hunting. The muzzel may have a silencer attached. Great efforts are taken to reduce recoil, and increase accuracy. Some are semi-automatic.

A BB is a ball, sometimes plastic, fired from a smooth-bore barrel at very low velocities. The weapons cost from £10 to £100, and are not used in sport. In the UK, these guns are distinguished by a bright orange muzzel-tip to mark them as non-lethal toys; although they can maim if you do something stupid like shoot someone in the eye. If it has a scope, that scope is fake, because the gun has a very limited range. The gun may have simulated recoil and electronic sounds for fun.

So you see... when people combine pelet/BB as though they are the same thing, I'm pretty darn confused! :hmm:

Where I live, pelet and BB means the same thing. Pelet just refers to a small round ball that is a projectile. I usually call it a BB gun since that is what I am used to hearing more from my family.

You are right! ;) Pellets are lead shot/ BBs are copper balls. Alot of people
say one when they mean the other. Many guns here can shoot both, with
pellets being more potent against small animals. Both can be dangerous  !

I thought a pellet was just a small ball. I'm pretty sure I've heard people refer to "owl pellets" before...

pellet guns are Cool fun and unsafe...YEAH!BABY!YEAH!
My sister fiancee got a Co² pellet rifle. it shoots through steel plates at close distance

Anybody who uses a pellet gun against animals is cruel. They don't have a chance.

Use your brain and try to capture them without a gun. That takes real skill. I caught a squirrel once when I was 11. No gun. Just ingenuity. One of the proudest moments of my life.

I really don't see why people think guns are fun. I've heard of plenty of people getting seriously hurt by foolish kids or even teenagers with guns.

Now paintball is better, but it's not my thing.

Obviously you do not use pellet guns on animals. ;)

Anyways, sometimes animals need to be blasted.

Actually killing an animal with a pellet gun is not as cruel as them starving to death from lack of available food, which often happens when their populations soar. How would you have gotten your food 300 yrs. ago, would you just starve because killing animals is 'cruel'?

I'm sure they'd rather be bashed against the pavement than shot.

Anyway, the point of killing nuisance animals is not sport. It's to get rid of the nuisance. The less chance they have, the better.

Same here. I guess the version of pellet guns to which stormbind refers is what I call an air pistol or air rifle.

An air rifle can shoot both pellets and bb's, I thought.

Yeah, must be.

Pelet = Pellet.

Mine shoots both. Most airguns around hear shoot both BBs and Pelets that I know of and these are .177 caliber pelets and BBs were talking about. The hunting ones are in .22 and even .45 calibers. I don't know anybody wh tries to hunt deer with .177 pelets :crazyeye:

So in America a BB is pretty much used in same contexed as a pelet. And both .177 BBs and pelets are pretty much equally dangerous. The ones I'm talking about are talking about are the $25-$50 that people buy their 10-12 year old kids before they arm them with real rifles.

I personally like playing with paintball guns better.

Pellet/BB guns are not 'fun'.
.50 cal machine guns are 'fun'. That, and the Mk19 full-auto grenade launcher - that's is most certainly exciting. And I would reserve the word 'awesome' (in terms of guns) for ones such as the A-10's Avenger 30mm cannon (6k rounds per minute... ). BZZZZZZT! BZZZZZZT!

And the M16 is not 'cool', or 'fun', much less 'awesome'. I would describe it as 'routine' or 'average'. :)

Depends on the rifle.

BB guns are normally smooth-bore, so not technically rifles at all. They will fire just about anything.

The more accurate the thread in the rifle, the more fussy it will be about it's projectiles. High-end air rifles will not fire cheap pellets or BBs.

All that noise will attract gun ships.

I would rather opt for a stealthy sniper rifle with anti-recoil action.

Gunships? Just what kind of lifestyle are you leading anyway? :p Are you somewhere in Colombia living in a large Villa? ;)

Don't you see, pellet rifles are simply "gateway guns" - soon you'll be shooting .22 rimfires, then smallbore pistols, then hunting rifles :sniper: - before you know it you've got a Class III license and are going to the range to shoot your M-16 on full auto. :ar15:

;)

I don't see a problem there. It's the natural progression of things. ;)

My uncle left his AR-15 (stripped down, civilian version of the M-16) here last time he visited, and a couple weeks ago my dad and I went out to one of his friend's farms and shot up a bunch of cans and boxes. WOW. I love living in America. It's a beautiful thing being able to shoot stuff up.
