Petting

Because it's cute.

Now for an option to pet certain Waifu leaders. Modders get to work.

Regular petting should increase the scout unit's combat strength, as a stronger bond is formed between the scout and the dog as a result, so they work better as a team. Similarly, lack of petting should result in loss of the combat strength.
There's certainly a difference between an unpetted and depressed dog who observes the approaching foe in abject apathy and wonders, if it is worth to move a muscle at all: death would seem quite welcome in the circumstances, and a well-petted, buoyant and self-confident dog who knows its master's next wish half an hour in advance and takes out the throat of a foe a mile away from the camp and before the foe even knows that they are, well, a foe.
:)

I see there is now a button to "pet" a scout. Why?
Because such a little, pointless animation is considered more important than implementing a useful, effective user interface or preventing the game from crashing.

And therefore I want to say BIG THANK YOU to all the people inventing, creating and updating all those super useful mods which the developers did not think of or did not want.

That twitter answer does not compare at all. We need gruesome grafic violence in civ6. A button to pet a dog is not fun. Moderator Action: *Snip*

Unless you on console, who apparently doesn’t matter to Fireaxis

This animation was made by an animator over the weekend in their free time for fun and not directed by a designer or developer. Literally no one involved in the creation of the scout dog petting could have used the same time on UX or stability fixes, let alone accomplished anything in those areas.

Adding a "fun" button to a poor UI is still a bit stupid - no matter who made the button. Less is often more regarding UI.

I'm hoping for the next patch to extend this ability to pet the cats...
