Haven't got a clue what the AP religion is or how it would affect us so I vote no rather than never.

1210. Peace it is! We had a miserable 5 votes so I probably should have defied, on the other hand we're still trying to get organised. Military wise I spent the set defending Mutal, trading units in tit for tat fights and probably coming out even but not a lot closer to victory. On the other hand we've got our army built into a proper stack (more cats on the way):

Our settler is nearly in place:

We made a trade with Mehmed:

Leaving us with this...

and liberalism is due next turn.

Milcity has just started heroic epic (5 turns).

And here's the save.

Lo and behold, a set! :D;)

I think I'm up, I'll play somewhere during the weekend. Seems we're doing fine, I'll get a peaceful set thanks to the AP...

2 things I wonder, after looking at the save:
1) What do we take from lib?
Astro, highest beaker value, can build observatories, but by itself not that important on this map type, or Nationalism or something else maybe? I'd take Astro probably.

2) We're in vassalage, slavery and OR. We may want to change that to bureau, caste and theo. With cottages maturing cottage heaven will be quite a good bureau capital now. We don't seem to whip much, so slavery doesn't seem as useful anymore and as we're about to found merchant town we coulld actually hire merchants with caste. And more scientists in science city of course. Theo to compensate the +XP loss from getting out of vassalage.
The three civic changes cost 2 turns of anarchy. If only caste and bureau it'd be 1 turn.

Thoughts?

I too would vote for astro.. In addition it will provide us quite a good trading value..

:goodjob: Good idea!

A rather quiet set, somewhat in tune with the quietness around here. :( Stupid summer! :)

Preflight, whip the theater in holy city and do some minor mm-ing.

T182 We're the first to lib and take astro.
Civ4PH152009.jpg

We revolt to bureaucracy and theocracy for 1 turn of anarchy. I figured we could still use the whip, especially for newly conquered Holy City and Merchant City that we founded this turn. Going caste at some point would be another turn of anarchy anyway and maybe we could do it in a GA of Taj. For that reason, choose nationalism next.

T183 Merchant City looks like this. I queued a workboat as I was mistakenly under the impression that the seafood was without nets :smoke:.
Civ4PH152010.jpg

Renegotiate silk deals with Biz and Mehmed for a slighlty higher price (8 and 5 gpt respectiively).

T186 Biz comes begging. I tell him that we're always glad to help. That's a lie of course, but it gets him to friendly. Music was not a big giveaway anyway.
Civ4PH152011.jpg

Science city completes a university and starts observatory.

T188 The Heroic Epic is built in Military City.

T190 A turbulent year for Holy City. Pacal's culture pops and takes away the two pigs to the east. Holy City is now completely surrounded by Pacal's culture. If that's not enough the AP comes with a proposal.
Civ4PH152012.jpg

We defy, no choice really.

T191
The results come in.
Civ4PH152013.jpg

This same turn our peace treaty with Pacal expires. So next player may want to do something about the Pacal problem. The troops are mainly in Holy City and don't have a peaceful way of getting out anyway... Some more troops are around Merchant and Engineering Cities.
Civ4PH152014.jpg

Whip whatever you can in Holy City, it will starve down to size 3 anyway. I was already duefully replacing the cottages with workshops, so it can only work 2 1f tiles (unless we farm them over, of course).

Nationalism just came in and tentatively selected gunpowder. Slotted Taj in Artist City, however, Biz has had nationalism now for a couple of turns and didn't want to trade due to "we have our reasons" so is on Taj as well. And he's industrious, though we have marble. Didn't check whether he has.
Civ4PH152015.jpg

It would be rather useful if we could pick up engineering in trade for the road movement.

It's nice to have a holy city, but we better hire as much priests there as possible if we're ever planning to get that shrine as well :)

We should declare war right at the beginning of the next set, capture Chichen Itza and make it our spy city. Then we have the final 8 cities and we can concentrate fully to remove that annoying Mayan culture once and for all.

I suggest we revolt to Caste System and OR once it feels like we have the troops we need.

Astro was a good choice for lib. Taj is a risk coz artcity is low production but worst case scenario is a cash refund.

Picking up engineering would indeed be good, maybe put milcity onto non-stop treb production.

Given that Pacal's got some wonders (and we ain't sure where) it may be safer to raze the cities.

Holy City can't run anything until its got some tiles to work.

I probably won't be available to play any more turnsets here, since I just need to finish one last exam (tomorrow) and then I'll be leaving on vacation and will not be near a computer for any long period during the summer holiday, so I'm going Out of Pocket for now. Good luck with this game, it looks to be heading for PH-Glory!

Hagia Sophia is located in Calakmul and Apostolic Palace in Lakamha. So we can keep Chichen Itza and after that, the only option is to raze in any case.

Thanks for that ( I should have posted 'and I ain't sure where').

I actually whipped a temple in Holy City and hired a priest, but then the pigs were eaten away... A buddhist temple at that, for the extra hammers from the AP. For that reason I slotted the buddhist monastery, otherwise 2 more temples can be built/whipped.

Ok with caste, but why OR? I actually revolted out of OR... Once Pacal, or at least his cultural pressure, is removed maybe I'd rather go for pacifism for the 100% GPP.

Enjoy your holidays and good luck with your exam! :)

Mainly because there's just so much infra to be built and two civic changes don't increase the revolting time. Pacifism can be quite costly if we plan to continue with military.

Then again, if the plan is still to continue warring and slow down AI's, we might as well stay in Theocracy. Man, I really miss spiritual trait right now...

Yeah, it depends on how we want to win this game... Raze and burn the whole world until there are only Greek cities left standing, or something more peaceful. Diplo, for instance. Just raze Pacal's land and let Boudica settle it. Build the UN and thus have Boudica as opponent and then let our jewish brothers vote for us. Could work out. :)

I'm quite certain we can win it by conquest, but concidering this is a pholk game, trying for a more risky diplomatic win sounds good too :D.

r-rolo1 seems to be taking lessons from me in tardiness  (but we're both bumbling amateurs compared to the incomparable and eponymous pholkhero).

Well, in spite of the reassuring words of my fellow SG partners, I decided to make a full army build up set. So, it was boring.......

First, get eng from Biz....
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0679.jpg

Made some trebs and pikes ( Pacal got knights around in the beggining of the set ).....

Boudi got knocking in our door.... I told her to get lost. ALERT: hands full status.

Biz circumnavigated and made Taj in the same turn. We got 152 g BTW.

We teched Guilds and Gunpowder. MT was queued in the end of the set. We also got a GS somewhere during the set, that was used to bulb Fishing.

AP call of vote. Defied ( still waiting for the result )

I strongly recommend to start the war soon and to NOT move any troop out of the Holy city ( I bet that it will atrack enemy troops like a magnet )

Yeah, let's see if Pacal sacrifices himself against the walls of Holy City... If it would have had walls of course! :D Maybe a good idea to build right away.

If Meiz wants to be skipped then LKendter is up next.
