PH15-not. Birds of a Feather.

Well aren't we blessed with our region! I'd definitely settle our science city in that nice western desert spot and maybe the merchants would like to chill out with beavers up north?

No but really, we should probably settle our engineer city first for the pyramids and the best candinate seems to be near the stone, 1E of the rice. We get coast and can build a lighthouse for one of the lakes.

Bronze spot should be settled 1W of the wheat, but what city would it be? Priest maybe?

:culture:Lets start at the very beginning.
Its a very good place to start.
When you read you begin with a b c
When you sing you begin with doh reh mi
but in civ you start at 4000 ad

[Chorus] :culture:4000ad :culture:
 I'll be singing along the rest of the day for sure!

Thy Spellcraft is UP.
Any particular reason to skip r_rolo? Thy was on autoskip anyway till the 29th so I guess either r_rolo must be up or else me according to roster.

Anyway, engineer city where Meiz proposed sounds ok to me. Bronze/wheat/sheep spot is maybe a good spot for artist city, decent production for the parthenon which I guess we shouldn't miss again :mischief::). While waiting for the parthenon to come online it can help with military, workers and settlers.
Best spot so far I can see for science city would be the rice/sheep place on the river, also picking up some silks. At least there's some grassland to be irrigated to support scientists and can take 1 floodplain from the capital.

No reason at all to skip r-rolo1 (warmonger extraordinaire in a Noble Walkthrough (I haven't forgotten :()).

But, seeing as you insist, r-rolo1 is UP

I too would settle the engeneer city first, but I'd rather settle it 1N of the rice. We'd give up costal (and therefore 1F of the lake) but would gain another hill for more hammers.. And I think hammers are more important in our engeneer-city as we won't support that many specialists until industrial era..

Given the constraints of the variant the early game is pretty much about nabbing wonders, specifically pyramids, parthenon and Glib.
A city near the stone makes sense for the pyramids though will be constrained by a lack of food until IW allows us to farm the rice (agriculture might help as well).
Maybe look for parthenon city to the north west and then Glib city in the east grabbing sheep, wheat and copper.
Given the absence of marble then we'll need to max chops for parthenon and Glib so will need to pick up maths.
That's a lot of early teching: agric, AH, wheel pottery, writing, masonry, IW, maths, poly and aesthetics for starters.
Maybe look to pick up pottery fairly early. One aspect of the variant is we can't build wonders in the capital so there's no real need to save the forests so we may as well chop them out asap for settlers and workers and build some cottages to support at least three early cities and maintain some research.

I agree stone and marble are musts with the variant. I didn't sign up for a oops - no Parthenon game...
This time get that artist city sooner and push toward the need techs faster.

Remember that Glib = science city, so I would rather settle that on the spot nocho mentioned (sheep, rice, silk). We need food for the specialists.

pigswill, could you post our roster? Currently I'm quite confused on the order (which is nothing new, I might add) :p

Though the question is not directed to me, I think the roster must look like this:

pigswill - just played
r_rolo1 - UP
Thy Spellcraft - autoskip until 29/05
nocho - On Deck
meiz - Eagerly awaiting
LKEndter - Unqualified sub for pholk as he's reliable
Diamondeye - Probably also way too reliable, but more than welcome :)

If r_rolo1 (warmonger extraordinaire) is overwhelmed by requests from other games then maybe he'd like to swop with nocho.......

Ok! Lo tengo/ich habe es/je l'ai/got it :)

Maybe can squeeze in a set late tonight or otherwise tomorrow evening. Will scout and chopbuild some settlers and workers. Depending on number of turns will try to found engineering city and science city. There doesn't seem to be overwhelming consensus yet about the exact placements so if there are no more comments you'll run the risk of me having the final say in it .
Science city I really think is best in the place where I proposed it, as it will have the most (potential) surplus food. Good point that the rice around the site for engineering city won't be available until IW. May have to prioritize IW then, but as pigswill mentioned, we have a large priority list already :). At least there's quite some forest over there and if we have stone hooked up those chops will effectively be double hammers, right?
Artist city should be the 3rd city we settle to avoid that Britney-"oops I did it again"-Spears feeling.

Couldn't get to it last night, will do so this evening. Besides, in honour of pholkhero we can't possibly post two sets in the first two pages already!
Ihanko totta? :p Ehkä me sitten jätetään tämä tähän... ;)
You're not insulting anyone, are you? :p Google translator tells me this means "pitchfork is true? Maybe then we will leave this here"... Quite mysterious, though I like the pitchfork!

There is no language called spanish. There is one called castillian :p
Well yeah, but for the international audience I'll call it spanish. Here in Catalunya everybody of course always speaks about "castellano" when referring to "spanish" though mainly to put it on a same level as catalan...

A high noise:signal ratio, pholkhero would be proud :D. We are however being far too polite to each other for a proper pholkhero game :nono: .

On a more whimsical note we've only got two forested sites in the locality and three wonders to build so at least one of them we'll have to build the hard way. The copper is of course at the unforested site. Maybe think about parthenon in copper city, pyramids in junglerice and glib in furry north.

!

Quite close actually, you could translate this to "Really? Maybe we'll leave this to here then...". Don't know where the pitchfork came...
