I was wondering about these
PHP:
and [code] tags. Not too many people use them, so I ask the mods (especially AlanH, the php "addict") what we can really do with them. Do we need to learn php? What can they do?

PHP is a scripting language for making dynamic websites. You can't use it on forums.

The tag is there for people to post PHP codes. For example, the tag is used often at vBulletin.org to share code modifications to the forum script.

PHP! Huh! Don't talk to me about php

I used to be a healthy, warm, friendly guy with a family, friends, a good job, money, car, nice home..... Then, one day, someone introduced me to PHP  From there it was down hill all the way, into mysql ... javascript ... css ... xhtml ... AJAX ...

Now look at me. A shadow of my former self. A wreck. Sunken eyeballs in darkened sockets; fingers - no, mangled claws - wracked and arthritic, with RSI; gibbering in my sleep about unclosed braces and forgotten dollar signs.

Don't do it, my friend. Stay away from the demon drug that is PHP. It's just the beginning of a slippery slope into coding oblivion ........

Alternatively, there's Thunderfall's description :D

The advantage of it over regular
Code:
tags is that it highlights syntax. The syntax is similar to C++ so it should highlight that syntax fairly accurately as well.

Generic question: Could it possibly be "modified" so that it could highlight the syntax of a different language? I'm not asking for this here, just wondering how the code is defined internally.
