Pitboss game within the team

That's interesting, is someone staying connected across the turn change? I could imagine a burst of IP activity at that point. Still no idea exactly what's going wrong, except that the entire home LAN loses connectivity with the WAN at that point, and I have to reset the cable modem. The only thing I can think of that makes any sense at all is a burst upload filter in my ISP, to enforce the "no servers" rule. I wouldn't think running a PTBS would meet their definition of a "server" but you never know.

BTW, I'm once again in some danger of being eliminated. This is not a threat to my opponent by any means, but should that happen I'll quickly lose interest in hosting. No offense intended to anyone in the game by that, just being honest. I'm too honorable to pull the plug, but if there are any volunteer backup hosts, please identify yourself. :D

There are 2 people i know with a server that could run it, matrix was having a go at cdz but it didnt work (he's also sort of out of the game) and igloodude but he isnt in the game.

Dave you must have rotten luck with all thsoe warmongers around you.....

once you declare peace....or your exams start.. :mischief:

I doubt it crashes because someones logged in at the change of turns, i have done so on 4 or 5 occassions (a few weeks ago was the last time) and there was no problems at all. There must be another issue somewhere

Same for me. I just wondered, since it was down around a turn change the last few times. May just be a coincidence.

I did wonder whether it was a time of day issue rather than turn change as the times I have had difficulty connection were morning GMT. Could that tie in with a time that your ISP considers abnormal for such activity? I have also been on over the turn change with no problems.

I thought that it was just a random thing but sometimes it takes me longer to connect in the lunchtime. I dont think it has much to do with being on over turn time because even ive been there! Maybe its because the game is getting bigger?

never mind...

Thanks to the little birdie for answering my question:)

I need to take the server down around noon tomorrow my time (GMT-7) and bring it back up around noon or a little after on Monday. Sorry about the interruption...

dave would it make more sense to pull the game in an hour or so? so that way when you put it back up everyone has a full 24 hours to play?

DaveMcW Check your firewall...I shut mine off completely and it still wouldnt let me load when you were on.

ALSO..I read somewheres that if you play your turn adn dont exit to desktop it causes problems when the next person comes on....long load times. I cannot find a link to it. So I guess if we wanted to help DaveShack and err on the safe side. After playing your turn "exit to desktop" instead of going back and playing more Civ by going to the main menu.

Connection Failure!

An incoming player was unable to connect to you.

So is my firewall the problem?

cross post..yeah Dave it would not let me on. Problem is we were on together when I was at war with Matrix...patch must have changed things.

That must've been me. It kept timing out saying "Connecting established peer DaveMcW." ;)
