Odd. I can't see my last post on this thread.
I say we all give each smilie an annoyance score, and then not allow sigs to have a certain total annoyance score. My suggestion:
All small, non-animated smilies (example:
) get a score of one. All small, animated smilies (example: 
) get a score of two. All fairly big, non-animated smilies (example: ![[party]](/images/smilies/partytime.gif "Party [party]")
) get a score of 1.5. All civ smilies (example: ![[ptw]](/images/smilies/ptw.gif "PTW Icon [ptw]")
) get a score of .5. These smilies: 
![[offtopic]](/images/smilies/offtopic.gif "Offtopic [offtopic]")
get a score of three. This smilie: 
gets a score of five billion. All sigs must not go over a total score of three.

I don't see anything wrong with a single Jesus smiley, irrelevant or not. It's many, big or animated (or all three ...) smileys in sigs that annoy me.

I have no problem banning smilies in sigs. Right now smilies in sig is only useful for those Civ3 version icons. Most people don't have any smilies in sigs anyway.

Well, TF, is there any way to allow certain smilies? I personally think that ![[civ3]](/images/smilies/civ3.gif "Civ3 Icon [civ3]")
and ![[c3c]](/images/smilies/c3c.gif "Civ3 Conquests [c3c]")
are actually fairly useful, because you know what version of Civ3 people have. If you can't, then just ban everything. No relevant ones are better than some relevant, and a plague of irrelevant ones.

seems fine actually, as long as the extra height the
smiley takes up is worht 2-3 text lines of your 5 line limit (easy version: i don't have a problem with the smileys ion that sig but the height it takes up)
