Planetfall

Patch 10e for Planetfall, the Alpha Centauri total conversion mod for Civ4 BtS, has been released. This patch needs to be applied on top of the main v10 file of Planetfall. It breaks savegames from any previous version or patch of Planetfall.

The patch mainly adds new and updated graphics. Say thanks to Lord Tirian and The_Coyote, everyone!



Changelog:

1. Subspace Generator building graphics by Lord Tirian.
2. Flamethrower unit graphic now has teamcolours, thanks to Lord Tirian.
3. Updated Unity Pod graphics, by Lord Tirian.
4. Alien Artifact resource graphics, by Lord Tirian.
5. Landing Pod/Headquarters graphics, by Lord Tirian.
6. Spartan cityset graphics, by The_Coyote.
7. Perimeter Defense graphics now show up in sea bases, by woodelf.
8. The Spartan promotion now also gives +5% healing in friendly territory.
9. Fungus 4 plots away from a base can no longer cause a fungal bloom near that base.
10. Bases now use the graphics of the player with the highest culture there instead of of the owner.
11. The Hybrid Ecology civic and Edenism religion cannot be followed at the same time.

 
I installed Patch 10D here is the save, CTD as soon as move to my colony pod to another tile, hit build crash.

Please try out patch e I just uploaded. I think I might fix your crash. Not sure though, for I don't get crashes.
 
Many thanks, Maniac et al. for the latest enhancement. Even if I don't finish a game for some while, I gotta have my enhancements and eye candy, as soon as they come out! :)

But most of all thanks again for my beloved Peacekeeper soundtrack. Ahhh, with that I really do feel I am at home again on Alpha Centauri. :)

1. Retouched Tidal Harness, Field Lab and "water worked" graphics, by Lord Tirian.
2. Spartan cityset now shows a bigger variety in buildings, thanks to The_Coyote and GeoModder.
3. Fixed bug with hidden nationality code.
4. The Energy Nexus requires you to have at least six bases to be buildable.

Yes you fixed it, do you know why it was crashing for me not you? (OS Issues?) I have a huge problem, I only play Planetfall and Moo2, when Planetfall is broken it ruins my day. :lol:

Thanks Maniac for making such a fantastic mod for the community. :goodjob: Plus helping us relive the best strategy game ever, SMAC.

1. Supply Pod and Material Supplies unit graphics, by Lord Tirian.
2. Reworked CityLSystem.xml, by GeoModder.
3. Unity Cryobay/Hydroponics Bay/Library building graphics, by Lord Tirian and GeoModder.
4. You now suffer a relations hit when running a leader's hated civic. Thanks to evertebrate, davidlallen and Pfeffersack.
5. Map of Planet added, by Silverr. Warning: work in progress. Please give comments here.
6. Windmills can't be constructed on Trenches.
7. Chopper units can fight inside the owner's territorial waters. Useful to counter fungal blooms encroaching on your shores.
8. The Rotor unit, a Chopper upgrade, available with the Kinematics tech. Graphics processed by The_Coyote, from EE2.
9. Bunker units can pick promotions and special abilities.
10. The Bunker unit now has two upgrades, available at Mass Driver and Degenerate Neutronium.
11. Morgan's civic aversion now is Autarky instead of Planned.
12. Grenade Fruits resource is now revealed by Xenobiology, but enabled by Retroviral Engineering.
13. Jungle now gets +1 nutrient from Environmental Economics instead of Retroviral Engineering.
14. Environmental Economics can now be researched through Soil Enrichment or Bio-Engineering.
15. Memetics can no longer be researched through Retroviral Engineering, only through Holographics or Factionalism.
16. Retroviral Engineering is now a level 4 tech, and requires Environmental Economics OR Industrial Automation.
17. Cloning requires Retroviral Engineering OR Memetics.
18. Doctrine: Initiative requires Pressure Dome OR Factionalism.
19. Units can at most move six plots by using Magtubes.
20. Atmospheric Transformation boosts the Mag Tube movement bonus.
21. Mag Tubes and Xenofungus/Hybrid Forest can't coexist, no building/planting one on the other.
22. Sea Beetle health resource added. Occurs on Ocean. Enabled by Retroviral Engineering.
23. Methane Ice health resource added. Occurs on Shelf and Polar terrain.
24. Bioreactor building now provides +1 health with Methane Ice.
25. Iridium now only occurs inside the Garland Crater.
26. Gravebringer unit has been removed.
27. The Hive can found bases on Rocky terrain without the plot turning Flat.
28. The Subspace Generator is now a secret project which requires six Dimensional Gates, and which gives you victory.

 
In the past few months since I bought Civ IV Planetfall has come on by leaps and bounds to the point where I hardly care whether or not they ever fix SMAC-X for XP etc. (they haven't, at least as far as I am concerned!), so I dare ask for sweeter improvements yet... :)

OK... On the map my cities note the next improvement "Command Center" or "Former", would it be asking the moon to put in that particular space, "-2" or "-7", etc. that is, the number of turns to completion? So I can see that at a glance. This is not a deal-breaker, guys, I am now hooked on Planetfall. Just suggesting more goodies you can throw my hungry way. :)

I'm quite sure that what you ask for is a basic game option.. Called something like Advanced City Info or such

I agree the mod is making nice progress though :) And the crawler/supply pod graphics are very welcome indeed.

That you need to do yourself in Advanced/Options/Graphics and enabling the "Detailed City Info" button. This was an option since the release of Civ4. ;)

1. Updared Energy Nexus and Maintenance Bay graphics by Lord Tirian.
2. Revised leader personalities by Pfeffersack.
3. Network Node building graphics by Lord Tirian.
4. Energy Bank building graphics by Lord Tirian.
5. The Bunker unit can upgrade to stronger versions with the Mass Driver and Degenerate Neutronium technologies. This time for real.
6. Mag Tubes will now change graphics when both Gravitonics and Atmospheric Transformation are researched.
7. You can now support a couple special abilities free of cost (like the base free units limit).
8. The Carrier unit has been removed.
9. A Carrier special ability, available to Cruisers and Submarines has been added. It allows the unit to carry three air units.
10. The Cruiser unit has been renamed Destroyer.
11. A Cruiser unit has been added at the Antimatter technology.
12. A Hunter submarine unit has been added at Silksteel Alloys. Graphics by Refar.
13. A Barracuda submarine unit has been added at Space Economics. Graphics by Refar.

Thanks again, fellows. Yes, being pointed by you in the direction of "Options" and "Custom game" has answered ALL my recent queries! :)

Now, if I may be so bold as to move this on a bit, since, as I said, there is unfortunately no instruction booklet as there was with the original SMAC and I find I have to use this forum to that end: -

- Are queues possible in Planetfall or would that require a MOD? I used to love in the original, deciding that something needed to be moved up a place or down a place as conditions determined.

- And, me being greedy, whilst there is a sort of option for a "workshop" in Planetfall by which you can give a unit at least two abilities it isn't quite as neat and multi-optional as the original "design workship" in SMAC.

- Finally, just to carp, unjustly, perhaps, for I love the improved graphics, the coastal security vessels look to me just like trawlers out of the early twentieth century! Which I suspect, out of Civ IV, is what they originally were. :)

You see, Maniac et al., since you spoil us with your MODs you gotta except our appetite grows with feeding. :)

You may be interested to know I have just had to reply to a criticism about the original SMAC on their forum stating that being given the explanation that one of my games crashed because X unit moved and not Y, something like that (I had played five games and they all crashed, why I have gave up and converted to Planetfall), was not an answer to my problem which I feel would require a proper MOD, and at which one of the people on the forum took umbrage, unfairly I feel, I have never had a game crash with all the MODs that Maniac et al. have provided so, somewhat regrettably, I shall just have to box SMAC-X away and move on with Planetfall! This is not to disparage Planetfall, I hasten to add, which I have been playing solid for the past two hours! :)

hmm you are right to tell people up front it is not going to be a complete remake but then you would have to remove religions and such to do that. Couple suggestions some of the leaders should never be able to run some of the religions this would keep it in line with them actually being factions from AC rather than being countries. I mean morgan running voice of planet...eh?

As well I would be more than willing to write up some descriptions for the parts of the civopedia that are missing. Clicking on eudomania and getting the christianity description and voice of planet and getting the description of taoism while hilarious would be likely to confuse some people..I can also do some writing and planning for an introductory viedo or interludes if you like.

When in doubt I try to err on the side of not playing restrictions on player choices. Besides, Morgan could also run a Green economy in SMAC. I guess one could always come up with some explanation if you really want one. Morgan could have embraced environmental economics or so. Or he could just be paying lipservice to the Voice of Planet. I mean, corporations these days like to pretend they are 'green' too. ;)
