hi... i was going to report a crash, but i'll try the new patch out now, if the crash is fixed by that.

i was trying to attempt a german translation. first, there are a few missing translation strings... if the tags are missing, the entire translation will show up blank, not just the missing strings... IMHO this is a major oversight of the Civ4 engine... but anyhow...

i have a fix for those missing strings, and an automatically processed blurbs.txt from the german alpha centauri version.

I've got a German version of SMAC/X lying around somewhere as well. If you want to start a translation, I'd be happy to help out a bit - I just don't have the motivation/energy to work on a full translation myself - I'd rather work on graphics stuff, given time and motivation. :)

Patch 10j for Planetfall, the Alpha Centauri total conversion mod for Civ4 BtS, has been released. This patch needs to be applied on top of the main v10 file of Planetfall. It doesn't break savegames from patch h or i.

Reason for this new patch so soon is a bugfix.

But some new graphics have also been created in the meantime!:



1. Special ability buttons added, by Lord Tirian.
2. Planetfall made compatible with other languages, by Eddi. Meaning not a translation, but that the text interface won't be completely missing.
3. Edenist Missionary graphics by Lord Tirian.
4. Religion spread effects for Edenism and the Voice of Planet, by Lord Tirian.
5. Bases captured by Native Life can't build base facilities anymore.

 
Version 11 of Planetfall, the Alpha Centauri total conversion mod for Civ4 BtS, has been released. This new version will break save games from previous versions.

This new version offers improvements in two fields:
1) Many new graphics by Lord Tirian have been added.
2) The Better AI mod by jdog5000 has been merged with Planetfall.(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)



I have a couple extra items to draw your attention to.

1) The Drop Trooper unit graphic recently added in Planetfall has been discussed on ModCast. Check it out!

2) Please post interesting screenshots of your games in this thread.

3) I could use your opinion on the next big thing to focus on: how to make the AI succesfully follow a Hybrid strategy. See this thread!

And now for the changelog:

1. Sea Borehole improvement graphics by Lord Tirian.
2. White Pines building graphics by Lord Tirian.
3. Temple of Planet building graphics by Lord Tirian.
4. Spawning Spot graphics by Lord Tirian.
5. Nutrient bonus resource graphics by Lord Tirian.
6. Fungus and Hybrid Forest graphics made less heavy on polygons by Lord Tirian, so that map scrolling flows smoother.
7. Better AI mod by jdog5000 added.
8. Atmospheric Processor building graphics by Lord Tirian.
9. Pholus Ridge landmark has been added. Graphics by Lord Tirian and Rubin.
10. Brilliance resource graphics, by Lord Tirian.
11. Kelp and Sea Fungus can no longer be planted on Trenches.
12. Centauri Ecology can be researched through Biofuel.
13. Spore Launchers require Field Modulation instead of Cloning.

 
Many thanks, Maniac et al., for the latest version of Planetfall. I always wait with baited breath for that, whether or not I have finished my present game. :)

Would some one please remind me where to put the old SMAC tech voices, as I seem to have lost those working. I put them under Sounds in the 2K Civ IV folder for the new version of Planetfall but that doesn't seem to work.

"It ain't happening", does not seem to match the dignity of the UN Peackeepers. I would like to write my own script. :) Is there a way of amending the text? I have looked at the diplomacy XML but couldn't find the text to amend.

The central files seem to be 'vanilla civ4/.../Text/Civ4DiplomacyText.xml' and 'Planetfall/.../GameInfo/Civ4DiplomacyInfos.xml'. SMAC diplo texts can be found in xscript.txt
 
Many thanks for such a quick response, Maniac. I have amended the CivIV diplomacy XML file via MS Word and hopefully that will take. We shall see. For your information, I have changed "It ain't happening" to "I am afraid I must regretfully decline your proposal", which is what I imagine UN Leader Lal would be more likely to say! :)

One recommendation, strong recommendation, and one query, please.

The query is, how do I go straight to a city? I know which ikon to click on but when I need to go quickly to a city under attack and revise its production queue, I only seem on the "mini-map" to be shown an approximate location. Then I have to scroll around to find it! :(

My recommendation, strong recommendation, and surely this isn't too difficult for the geniuses who have given us SMAC for the first decade of the twenty first century, take your bows, Maniac et al., even if you can't give us the SMAC workshop, please, please, please give us the ability to upgrade formers to PSI defence. This was very important and useful under SMAC and surely shouldn't be too difficult under Planetfall? It is really getting wearing having constantly to replace formers - under the old SMAC they could defend themselves after sufficient tech - it really should be possible under Planetfall. Workshop or no workshop!

BTW, many, many thanks for reintroducing the custom musics for the various factions, including that "frisson" music for the Alpha Centauri native life - that really enhances and takes me back to all the atmosphere and enjoyment of the original SMAC! :)

"I am afraid I must regretfully decline your proposal"

That expression isn't really sound, you know. ;)

A better response would be: "I regret to inform you we must decline your proposal" or simply "I am afraid we must decline your proposal". But using "afraid" and "regretfully" in such a sentence structure just doesn't sound right.
 
K... I will duly amend the sentence. At least now I know how! :)

And since I am here....

The native lifeforms, who are admittedly only defending their habitat, are a damned sight harder to beat than in SMAC! :( K... so once again, surely it doesn't need a "SMAC workshop" option to enable formers to have a Psi Defence! I can give my bunkers a Psi defence, why not my formers?

ALSO, I seem to recall, and it was a good idea, that in the original SMAC if you defeated or killed the native fauna/flora you got credits, presumably because you could use the flesh or whatever for fuel or food! Now that seems like a good idea to me for Planetfall. :)

Just a few ideas to keep the modders, to whom I am most grateful, happy. The game looks increasingly beautiful but damned hard!

Planet pearls.. the native life contained something the early colonists appreciated resembling pearls. It made hunting mindworms quite profitable in some situations.
