Planetfall

OK, maybe the barbarian civ shouldn't be called Planet, but Rebel units that occur later in the game could still be called Native UNITNAME. They might be colonists who have "gone native" or just that enough time has passed that these people are led by youngsters born on Planet, 2nd generation inhabitants. Native is my vote. I think a poll might be in order.
 
So there are two proposotions now to replace "barbarian" with: rogue and native.

In my view, "rogue" covers more possibilities then "native". For instance, colonists can always be declared going rogue by their faction of origin, while becoming native is a bit more stretched in case of the Gaians. That faction is about the most native you can imagine as earth factions go.

really great job you've done here.
Have some remarks after playing for half a night.

Native life doesnot scare me a bit. While in Smac you really had to defend or else... now a rover easily kills all lifeforms it meets. (Or at least in my game.)

The worker unit doesn't have an automate button. Really a big timekiller while playing.

Maybe that communicates what you're after without implying good or bad necessarily.

Not sure what you mean. Did you find some fitting sounds other than those included in SMAC? Would be great to hear them.

It is a set of sound files that change the sounds to better enchanced ones, better pitch, bass, treble, etc. I will see if I can find some sounds that would be fitting for mindworm creatures. I could mess with the ones in game, the noises they made in SMAC were fine I thought. Take those sounds, enhance & modify a bit.

The attack noise I have some thoughts but need to do some searching.

The graphic glitches the Mod has, due to how you have to use land and water together. Some units have a cargo boat mysteriously appear from off the side of the right side of screen, whenever I load the units onto the unit carrier. :eek:

I bet there is a way around that glitch, that has to bug ya? :)

Overall I am enjoying myself playing on large map. It is like SMAC on steroids, only missing the ship design & the cool ass way you could have a pact. attack and plan out the strategy together. Maybe in the sequel eh? :crazyeye:

I can't seem to open the link to download Version 8; I click on the link and get a "Page Load Error/Address not found" error message. I tried the same on IE and got an error message as well. Any reason for that?

Maniac damn you *shakes fist* I fall asleep on keyboard playing planetfall the other day. 14 hrs non stop playing on largest map. :lol: There is so much more you can do with your Mod. :D

LOL. Most people say native life is too big a challenge or annoyance.
Is it possible you are talking about the Unity Rover, not just the Rover unit in general? That one starts with free promotions giving it +40% strength, including against native life, so that unit would indeed be able to defeat native life easily.

I gave the Unity Rover those promotions, because I never chose to upgrade the Supply Pod to that unit before. So I figured I'd make the unit more attractive. But perhaps that's my opinion, and other people did regularly use the Unity Rover upgrade option, even before the extra promotions?

Good call on Native/Rebel. (My early recons either die or get promoted. It's the later Native life that keeps bugging me by destroying what I painstakingly build...):gripe:

That's because an exact link would be out of date by the time the monthly "new civ4 files" thread is made.

:hmm: I usually update my entries as I go along. Anyway, been busy, but gonna try the latest version soon.;)
 
My site went down for a routine server reboot. Was only offline for 30 minutes? Server uptime is like 2-3 months. :(

By the way Maniac, you have almost 200 downloads already. I rearranged things so if you want we can have your support topic route players here. :D I see no point in having support topic at my site when the real Mod project is here, I will redirect the support page to your thread here. ;)

tried to give your mod a try, as i did love SMAC.

BUT: i installed in default setting. couldnt make it work. "launch planetfall v8.lnk" seems to be the one starting the thing (why not a desktop icon??). but this one cant find beyondthesword.exe or something. so i copied to where Fall from Heaven installs to. still no work. ohhhh my, what to do?


BTW: did you include the annoying pirates from alien crossfire? their advantages in terms of space ruined this expansion thoroughly if they took part of the action......

Question: Is there anyway to make the research random like in the Original SMAC? I loved the realisim that came from only being able to research in directions without knowing exactly what was going to come next. In fact, I wish they had this option in Civ 4 in general. Otherwise, this is a great mod!

Hmm, the launch icon only works if Civ4 is installed to:

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword

This won't be the case if you have Civ4-Gold or Civ4-Complete or so I believe.

You can change the location the launch icon links to yourself. Right-click on the icon / click Properties. I guess it's all pretty self-evident.

Come to think of it, I could include extra launch icons for the other usual Civ4 installation locations. Named 'Launch Planetfall for Civ4-Complete' or so. What location does Civ4-Complete install to? Or whatever it is that you have?

I hate programs creating unasked-for desktop icons. :mad: You can create a desktop icon yourself by right-clicking on 'Launch Planetfall' and click 'create shortcut'. Then drag that shortcut to your desktop.

Not yet. They will be though. But probably as a toggable game option.

Going through the hints list I kinda consider low priority. Besides, being the designer I might not be the best person to decide what's new and unexpected for a first-time Planetfall player. If you guys would create a list with useful and not-so-obvious-at-first-sight hints for newcomers, I could include it. For instance: "Resources don't need roads to be connected."

This is an impressive mod. Maniac et al., you've done a great job. I have some thoughts about gameplay, but they have to do with planet value so I'll post them there.
 
I'm also interested in discussing roads/mobility but I can't find the right thread. Could someone point out if there is one?
