Play Scenario always crashes to desktop...

A weird thing occured today as I was about to try my very first Nobles' club game.

I downloaded, and installed the NC 83 Peter the Great WorldBuilder save in the Saves/WorldBuilder folder in My Games. Then I tried to choose Play Scenario. I got all the way through all the choices. As the game was about to generate the map it crashed to desktop. I tried with Custom Scenario. Same result.

I use Bts 3.19 with BUG 4.4 on a Vista machine.

After this failure I also tried to load other Scenario's, with the same crash as a result.

I have played Scenario's before, and they have always worked fine. Not anymore.

It is easy to Start Custom Game and Play Now games.

If anyone have had this problem before...please advise as to what you did to solve the puzzle.

All tips welcome.

If you are going to run on Vista/Win7 it will pay to install as per my instructions

At least for anyone installing the game for the first time.

What I did when installing, was that I installed it in C:\Spill and not in C:\Program Files.

I also installed "as administrator". And I updated the DX9 files with the ones included in the game. I have Civilization 4 Complete.

Then I updated to version 3.17 first, and 3.19 second.

I have had no problems playing scenarios in the past. It is a long time, though. Before I started trying to mod the game at all.

I have had no problems starting the game after I began modding either.

Just that when I suddenly decided to try my first Noble's Club game I simply couldn't get it to work. Every time I choose Play Scenario, or Custom Scenario the game goes through the set-up process. And when I click on Play, the game shows the "game preparation" screen for a few moments before I am told by Vista that the game has crashed.

This is mysterious to me...

I hope you are not modding the original files ? Errors here will crash the game for sure.

After having thought about it for a while, it suddenly hit me...

So, I changed back to the ORIGINAL dll-file (CvGameCoreDLL.dll) in my BtS/Assets-folder.

Lately I have become so used to playing with the 50Civs dll that I simply forgot I had placed it instead of the original 18Civs dll in BtS.

I am fond of playing with 30+ civilizations, even in the original sized maps and speeds of the BtS version of the game.

@kiwitt: No I don't change the original files. I change all files in my own personal mod instead. However, I was getting used to playing the original game with more than 18 civilizations after having replaced the original dll-file in BtS/Assets (and re-naming the original to secure easy change back to the original file).

Now, I really liked to read your post about how to install the game. It was a very good guide. So some good has at least come from my experience.

Playing scenario's require the original dll-file! So, now I know that, as well. From now on I guess I have to just let the original BtS be for 18 Civs only, and only use the 50Civs dll in my own personal mod.

Silly me...I feel like Basil now...
