Is there any possibility to download a patch with which I can play the game with wonder movies without CD?

I have a very slow pc and Civ2 crashes when loading a wonder movie or a negotiation screen from the CD. So I wondered if I could download a patch somewhere where the movies are included and a different file where the link to the movies is not to the CD but to the HD.

There are some patch programs, including NOCD (for MGE) here:
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2utility.shtml

From the Graphic Options menu you can turn off Wonder movies and "Animated Heralds" (fancy diplimatic negotiations), as well as the High Council, Civilopedia and Throne Room. Another option you might consider is copying the /KINGS and /VIDEO folders from your CD to your /CIV2 folder (next to /PEDIA and /SOUND); it will check the local drive first before looking for the CD.

You could make an ISO image of your civ cd, then mount it with daemon tools

I always play civ like that (I have several versions of it) as well as other games, but those (other games) need patching because of the copy prevention mechanism.

Patching your copy of Civ is a sensitive topic at this site, as can be seen in some previous discussions :)

Huh? I've long played Civ2 without the disc. Just copy the /kings and /video folders from the cd to your Civ2 folder. You won't be able to play the game music, but who cares? Play your own!

According to my FW:
I put the dics - it starts with 4 options (play, install etc) - it starts the opening video - I press a button and cancel that - disc is free.
I use it for few seconds and then play for hours!!!
(Good for Internet Cafes - 1 cd is enough!!!)
Actually even those guys from civs just don't play if there's no cd - no crash.

But if you don't have CD? I don't have it anymore. And MGE or FW don't work, because there is no CD.

There's a No CD Patch on the main site. It's already been linked to in this thread, so I'll just refer you to post #2.
