Players for New Epic Game Wanted

Good to hear, Brenador.

Kevin, you're welcome to join us, as long as you can be reliable.

And yes, we will use the right map size. A too-large map is no good, unless you essentially want a builder game.

I have to say, at this point I'm not hugely optimistic about this--without a set schedule, I think this will be hard to maintain. We'll see how we go.

Brenador, once you are available, let us know, and we'll try to set a date for our first session.

You guys could use a service like http://doodle.com/ in order to schedule your matches.
It works like this: the host proposes a set of tentative days and time slots, and the participants vote for all the slots for which they are available. Then you just pick the time that got the most votes (in this case, unanimity).
Hope it helps.

Thanks, xerex, that does sounds helpful. I'll check it out when I have a chance / when everyone is ready to play.

Is this even possible with Civ 5?

Only when you click 'menu' in a MP game you get the option to exit to windows or exit to start menu. There isn't the option to save. Although I could be wrong on this... anyone?

(im talking about a steam game here and not any other serbers there might be)

I am ready to join. This Sunday morning wouldn't work for me, but anything else probably would, even if it's at 1:00 A.M, just not 1:00 A.M on Sunday.

Yes. I think ctrl-S will save it; or you need to rename your last autosave so it won't get overwritten before you come back to it.

Okay...well, we could always try to start tonight if everything falls into place. That would be about 10 hours from the time of this posting. I'll hop on steam then and see if I can find everyone.

Otherwise, either post here your availability for the next week or so, in terms of which days you could play during the time listed above in this thread; Or I could set up a doodle page to try to make scheduling easier. There's nothing in that to help with different timezones, that I saw...so that may remain confusing.

Hope to see you guys later, or see posts about which days work for you.

Here is a thread explaining how to save multiplayer games :

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=397745

If someone can confirm this is working we can set our first turns of play.

P.S. : I do a 16 hours of work tonight. I will be able to play only until Saturday morning at 4am(to set with Onan's time) but i think Onan can't because of kids.

I can go anytime, once the time is set - and what timezone it refers to so I can adjust to my local time. GMT -4 here.

Cheers for the info.

Although now I'm as confused as to how you pick up from where you left off in the second sitting as I don't recall a Load game option in MP either. :crazyeye:

I haven't looked at that thread, but I do know it works. Offhand I don't remember how to load up an MP save, but it's pretty straightforward--the main thing is that you name it like the other saves (or rename from auto before playing another game), and make sure it's in the correct directory (saves/multiplayer I think) so you can find it to load up. I've done it before, so we'll be fine--though if you're hosting, Tabarnak, you'll need to get familiar with it.

I'll hop on in a couple hours and see who's around, but I won't start The Game until we're a bit more organized and people have had enough notice. I'll tighten things up on that...probably later this evening, and then we can firm up a definite date that works for everyone.

Looks like we might actually have 5 or 6!

In MP when you press Host game you can see load game option.
And i think only the person who is going to host the game is able to load it, i hosted games there is multiple Auto-saves and i load the latest one before quitting, also i think the MP game saves every turn.

As for me i am good to play 1st 3rd 4th 5th of June if that helps :)

Okay guys, let's get our first session nailed down.

The time for the game is from 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm local time (or later if we agree), which is GMT +12. Please use http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/personal.html or another 'world clock' to compare this to your local time. (Auckland is my city and if you add yours you'll be able to compare easily.)

Because my time slot is so limited, I am very flexible and can pretty much play any evening as long as I have enough notice.

I believe at this hour, we're all on the same day--even if for me it's evening Friday, while it may be 1 am or 4 am for you the same Friday. Because of this I'll use the day names to try to avoid confusion--but please keep this in mind if you're in North America, as it may help you to think of it as Thursday night, for example.

Starting from tomorrow, using only the days Mesopotamian can play, removing the others:

Wednesday 1
Friday 3
Saturday 4
Sunday 5

Please reply with only the days above listed that you are able to play. I will then edit the above list, taking out the days that don't work for someone. This process should let us narrow down at least one day we can all play.

Post up your free days please! The more days you can put up as possible, the more chance we have of finding at least one in common.

(Meso has a quiz he's studying for...so hopefully this is a busy week for him, and usually we'll have more options!)

Forum name Steam Handle
Onan Onan
Brenador Brenador
Tabarnak Tabarnak2010
KevinJ ?
Mesopotamian Pittballz

Did I miss anyone?

Haven't been able to find Tabarnak 2010 on Steam, says no players or groups match...?

We are already friends on steam Onan. I also have Pittbalz. My free days of play are :

All days of week i can technically play but i will advertise in advance if i can't for some days, each week. For now, for this week, i can play these days :

Sunday, Monday, Thuesday,Wednesday, Friday.

I will make some tests tonight to be familiar with the loading system. I went at bed at 8:30 this morning...:crazyeye:....still sleepy...yawn.

I've just added Benador.

Yes at this time we are all on same day. Easier at least to follow.

All days except Sunday will work for me this week.

Looks like we're down to:

Wednesday 1st June
Friday 3rd June

At this point, we could start with four players on Wednesday and maybe play Friday too. Edit: maybe five, since KevinJ is free anytime. We just need your Steam name Kevin. Also a five player game would probably mean no alliances allowed. Not sure about tech trading.

If other players want to get in on this, but aren't free one of those days, post in the next day or two.

Sorry, Tabarnak, I must've overlooked you in my friend's list--and maybe the Steam search function doesn't finds friends you already have listed.

I suggest we use the civplayers 'lobby' (a steam chatroom) to gather, as it'll be easier than a bunch of separate message tabs. There's a link on the homepage http://www.civplayers.com/index.php?section=home , left side, under Main Menu, Chatroom. Check it out and see if it works for you.

Tech trading i think shall be okay, gold is limited anyways soo ...
but why no alliances ?

As for playing times: Confirmed :goodjob:

If we have five people, that means we either end up with a 3 vs 2, or 2 vs 2 vs 1, either of which is unfair. I guess we could agree to that sort of arrangement if we all wanted to, but that's why I'd suggest none with that number of players. Just as with four players I'd say one ally only rule.

I see your point, that can be a bit problematic

But even if I don't want to ally with a player who is close i might be tempted to defend with him to prevent another player who seems powerful taking over his cities then out run everyone else.
Will stuff like that be banned or it is not deemed an ally or what ?

Also the all rules should be determined before the game starts, stuff like are nukes allowed and this alliance thing and weather or not there is a mandatory peace time at the start and for how long if there is any etc

Just to be super clear.

Agreed, such things should all be decided before we start, to avoid later disagreements. So if we don't have such agreements in place, then anything goes. (This is a subtle hint to people to make their preferences known now!)

In your defense scenario above...no, I would not deem that allied. I guess the reason for restricting allies is really to prevent 2v1 situations on offense. There's no real way to police any of this, though--just honor system for anything we've actually all agreed to.

This is our first game...things may be a little messy. We're learning as we go.
