Players, how much experience do you have in the Civ-series?

I played the Civ series since it first appeared in the early 90s. Civ, Civ II, Civ III, Civ IV and Civ V. Probably liked Civ III least.

In previous years I had previously played the board game Civilization and Advanced Civilization (long boardgame) and have continued to play it about once per year.

Been playing since 3, which still holds the position of my favorite game ever. Only reason I ever played IV was for Fall From Heaven, otherwise I totally abandoned it. CiV, I pre-ordered it, played it on the first day... I was dissapoint. But now it is excellent, and I'm looking forward to what's next for CiV.

Started with Civ 1 on the Amiga. Played it to Death. Even bought the £20 book - although it didn't tell me much I didn't already know.

Then Civ 2 on the Playstation. My that was crap.

Then Civ 3, Civ 3 CTP, Civ 4, Civ 4 Warlords, Civ 4 BTS, Civ 5. Only omissions are CivRev and Facebook Civ.

I've wasted my life :)

I have played many thousand hours with each one of the games. After having the experiece of all civ games i can clearly say that IV (optimized with BTS expansion) is the best of them, followed closely by II. And by "best" i mean the game that was most enjoyable to play at the time. That conclusion is probably not very unique:) I havent played civ rev much, and i havent tried the facebook one at all, but i dont think they count as real civ games anyway. Civ V has been the least fun of all the games, which probably isnt that unique to think either.

Ditto. Except I never bought Civ III. I also bought Colonization when it first came out, and then bought Colonization IV when it came out. I became a whiz (i.e., I could win any game any time at the highest level) on every game except Civ IV; am still working on Civ V which I play for challenge & fun almost exclusively at the Emperor level.

I started with the original in '91. Played it beyond death.

Had an instant Civ-gasm when I saw the "statue" graphics and moved to Civ 2 as soon as it came out. I modded it pretty heavily and played Civ 2 (including it's expansions) until about 18 months after Civ 3's release...

Played the original Colonisation a fair bit, same with Alpha Centauri and the Alien Crossfire expansion.

Hopped on Civ 3 late, but played it pretty much right up until day zero for Civ 4, including PTW and C3C. Did some very basic mods for my own use.

Civ 4 day zero was extremely disappointing, persisted through a few patches, found some good mods (Didn't mod anything myself with this game... I don't know Python and the XML stuff and animations that people came out with were awesome) and then with Warlords and BTS I'm actually still playing it concurrently as I play CiV, because obviously it has a lot of TC mods as CiV's source hasn't been released yet.

I hopped on CiV early this year when I got a computer that I was comfortable could play it well. I'm certainly no more disappointed with it than I was with 4. After a few more patches, maybe an expansion or more gameplay mechanic focussed DLC, and after the Source is released to the Mod community, it'll be elevated to the status of Gaming Crack just the same way that 4 was....

I started in 96, my freshman year in college, playing Civ2 on a buddy's PC. I liked the advisors on that rendition of Civ. They were hilarious. I remembered the Great Library was uber OP on Civ2. You could choose 3 techs of other civs to learn once you completed it. I never actually owned this game so I don't think I played any expansions.

Civ 3 was probably my least favorite. I hated corruption and waste. It just seemed to really hinder the game. I also hated the "throne room" bit. I could care less what that stupid throne room looked like!! Civ 3 did introduce culture though (one of my favorite ways to win) and I remember having a particularly satisfied feeling when winning my first OCC. I think I waited to get Civ 3 until the "Gold Edition" was released.

Civ 4 was awesome. I got it when it first came out and played the hell out of it and all of the expansions. I didn't particularly care for the religion system (corporation system, bloodlines, etc.) in Civ 4. They were more of an annoyance than anything. Both of the expansion packs were awesome! Chinese Unification was probably my favorite just because I'm a big fan of ancient china and the unique units to that scenario were pretty fun.

Civ 5 has been pretty good. I've found myself motivated to play and try different avenues of winning due to Steam's achievement system. I'm one of those types that likes to unlock achievements (probably from my years of playing WoW) so it worked for me. I wish the leaders changed appearances as time passed like in previous civs, and it would be nice to have more than one leader per civ to choose from, but I do like that they fleshed out their facial expressions and mannerisms better than past installments. I've been frustrated lately due to performance issues on bigger maps, but it's not enough to hinder me from playing, and I'm not a big fan of having to pay for DLC for my extra civs and such but I guess it's about the same as buying an expansion...

Played Civ1 on a Commodore Amiga back in 1994. Moved on to a PC and Civ2, 3, 4 (Warlords and BtS) and then Civ5.

I've played each version for hundreds of hours at least, probably thousands of hours judging by the hours Steam says I've played Civ5 for.

Used to play on low levels for role play purposes, but with Civ5's "playing to win" AI, role playing is less possible, so I now play the game more competitively.

(All on PC) Played Civ2 from 1998-2005, mostly custom scenarios. Played Civ3 for about 3 months (ugh). Then really got into Civ4 from 2005-2010, and Civ5 since then. As much as I loved Civ4, I can't go back to it after playing Civ5. Having 1upt (traditional wargames-like combat) and Social Policies make up for other deficiencies, enough that I can't play Civ without those two features.

Addendum: I will, however, go back and play Civ4Col AoDII any time. That is such a great scenario.
