I'm just curious as to how you can change your resolution in Civ3. I just started playing it and do not see any way to change screen resolution. I have a widescreen laptop that runs my other games at 1280X800. I have seen somewhere in these forums people talking about "keepres=1" or something. What do I need to do to make sure I'm viewing Civ3 at the highest quality possible on my system? Please tell me what file or files I need to edit. Let me know if you need any other info from me also. Thanks so much!

In your Civ3 folder you should find a file Civ3.ini (or civ3ptw.ini, or Civ3conquests.ini, or something along those lines). Open this file with notepad and add the line keepres=1. I don't think it matters where you add it, but I added it to the end of mine.
What keepres does is it forces the game to use whatever resolution your desktop is set to.

Ahhh, thanks! I just bought and installed Civ3 Complete, so I'm guessing I'll add it to the .ini file in my Conquests folder correct?

Yep, assuming Conquests is what you play regularly. You may as well add it to the others too, in case you decide to have a game of Vanilla or PTW.

What if I'm planning on playing alotta mods like Rise and Rule, Warhammer 2.5 and Rhye's mod? Will each mod have a .ini file to edit, or, as long as I'm running Civ Conquests and then loading the mods in Civ-Content I'll be ok?

You only have to edit one file, no matter how many mods you play. (since that ini is never changed in any mods) :)

Gotcha! Thanks!

Just to make sure...."keepres=1" is the right command to add at the end of the file right? I just wan't to make sure there are any CAPS or spaces needed.

Nope, its just keepres=1. No spaces, caps or any other font-altering device.

I am not 100% sure but i thought I remembered there being a "keepres" already typed in and you only had to add the "=1". Either way, just add "keepres=1" anywhere in that file and it will work regardless.

I am having a hard time finding the file. Is there any way I can get more help finding?

Do you have a shortcut to civ on your desktop? if so, right click and choose "properties" and in the "shortcut" tab there should be a button that says "find target." Clicking that should bring you to your civ folder, the .ini file will be in there.

thanks, that is a nice trick.

I did get that far though. Where is it located within the Civ folder?

Is it titled "conquests Configuration Settings"?

When I add keepres=1 I get this error:

any solutions?
Edit: nevermind, I solved it.
