This coming Christmas, I have 500 USD to spend for my own pleasure. A recent commercial caught my eye, about the PS3 being $299.99. With Empire Total War, I have $450 to spend, and that, as well as inFamous and Call of Duty Modern Warfare is in my price range.

Here's the problem. Until last October, I was a proud XBOX 360 Owner, until its internal hardware fried. I have several games for it, and remember fondly of playing Ace Combat 6.

Here's my question: Do I go with the PS 3? Or do I get my XBOX fixed and have more money on other things to spend. Please give your input on the options, or if you have anything else to recommend. Much obliged

The PS3 slim looks really really nice, especially with a 120gig hard drive. Most games are for both PS3 and 360, but there are PS3 only games such as Uncharted which are pretty good (don't know of any worth-while x-box 360 only games except maybe Fable II).

If your x-box still has a warranty on it then get ti fixed anyways. PS3s are more reliable, far far fewer of them have died, even when excluding the 1st generation of x-box 360s (of which at least 50% have died).

inFamous is good, I wouldn't get an FPS on the console unless you are good at playing them with a console controller, except Borderlands which is still good (though still not as nice as a mouse for me).

Thanks. I just bought all my gifts from Amazon: PS3, Infamous, COD Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, and Fallout Game of the Year edition :D

normally i would say get the ps3, but if you plan on playing any of your xbox games again, i'd say an xbox would be better. or i suppose you could trade in your xbox games for new ps3 ones. actually, yeah, i'd do that.

Trading them in would be a good idea since you went with th PS3 assuming you can't get your x-box repaired. If any of your friends or family has an x-box and wants one of those games, christmas is soon.

I myself have an X-box, mostly because I like the games offered for it over what you can get on the PS3... though I'd probably get Valkyria Chronicles if I had a chance.....

(I have a friend who has a PS3, so I'm totally not biased against PS3 people :p)

there is very little difference between the two consoles... even the price difference is actually quite small considering that PSN is free as opposed to xbox live. if you ask me, i would choose dependent on which controller you prefer as this is the biggest difference. thats why i prefer the ps3: the controller is lighter (much), and i prefer the arrangement of the left analog and d-pad as well. the ps3 controller strikes me as being easy to hold for long periods of time, whereas the xbox controller is kinda large and unwieldy.

I think it all comes down to your choice in games. I've had my Xbox fixed 3 times, already and will get it fixed again till the warrenty runs out that is.

PS3s are great, especially doubling as a blue-ray player.

Also the subscriptionless online.

I have a friend who owns both, while I'm just a PC kind of guy (death 2 Macs), so I have no bias. <Though I recently got some familial use of a Wii ----longing for a kick-butt FPS on the Wii where you actually sprint, do combat roles, take cover and stuff>

With the online though, you get what you pay for.

I've never been disappointed with the ps3 network compared to xbox live either, but I have been impressed by xbox live features that the ps3 lacks.

i'm interested as to what features these are, because one of my mates is trying to convince me to get an xbox over a ps3... he says xbox live is much better, but i don't really know/understand how.

The main one that has impressed me was the support for the Rock Band Network, which allows people to upload their own songs for people to buy as DLC in Rock Band.

As a general rule, because of the subscription, Live is more reliable and better supported. The PS3 network does it's job, but if something needs urgent patching, or something goes bad, or whatever, it's a lot more trouble than when Live has something that needs urgent patching, etc.

ok thanks for the info :)

Just curious. Did you ever end up getting Empire Total War and if so what do you think of the game?

I'm a staunch Sony supporter myself but to be fair you might be better off getting your Xbox repaired/replaced since you've invested so much in your current game library. Just a thought...
