Hi,
I've been having multiple crashes and problems with v.36 and v.37 - the few changes I've tried so far don't seem to be helping much. I am wondering if an older version of C2C would be more stable. Can you please recommend any fixes?

My machine:
Win 7 Pro, 32-bit, RAM 16 GB.
Video card: GeForce 9500GT with measly 512 MB onboard (yeah, I realize this must be the source of my problems - if simple upgrading the graphics card solves the problem, I will happily do that).
I have Civ 4 Complete installed, run BsS 3.19 with v.36 (+ Russian language pack installed - I thought that the language pack could be at fault, but vanilla v.37 seems to generate the same problems). Graphics quality is set to average. Run it as admin
I play small maps with 4-5 opponents and some optional settings

That's what my issues are like:
1. Single Mode reliably CTD at every launch. Hotseat doesn't have this problem at all (so everything below is about hotseat issues).
2. When saves get over 1 MB, game starts CTD-ing every 2-3 turns. In early game it almost never happens.
3. Calls of functions such as research, sevopedia, paradigms lead to CTD or bad memory allocation error (and CTD)

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

V33 worked fine on my old Win XP machine with 3 GB memory, V35 didn't

On a 32 bit OS 1 GB video ram is minimum for the latest versions. Since the Civ IV BtS engine is 32bit, your system ram will only use ~2.6 to 2.8GB for the game. If it goes higher it will CTD. More video ram will alleviate some of the problem of Widows grabbing the ram for it's systems.

Do you have a Paging File set up in the Video Performance Tab for Win 7 32 bit? If not Set it to at least 4096MB. There is another setting under that tab that needs set to Programs. These can be found by right clicking My Computer icon on your desktop, then select Properties and then select the Advanced tab. In the Advanced tab there will be a section at the top for Performance (visual effects ets), with a Settings button. Click it to bring up the next page. This page under the 1st tab VisualEfects has the "Let windows manage..." radio button plus 3 more. I never let windows mange this as it is a Hog selection. I use Custom or Adjust for best performance.

Next tab over is Advanced select it. 1st section set it to Programs under Processor Scheduling. Then below that is where the Virtual Memory can be set. I have mine at 8166 but for your 32 bit OS 4096 is sufficient. Select the Change Button to make your settings. Again do not "Let windows manage" in the next screen either. Use Custom.

Once you have done this restart the Mod. See how it performs. If you are still having issues go into BUG and activate Viewports at 50 x 50 to start. (Graphical paging should be active already. Do Not de-activate it.) If you are still having issues after all this, start reducing the Viewport size ie. go from 50 x 50 down to 40 x40 etc..

If you are Still having problems after all that, get a newer computer! :p

32 bit? If Joe's solutions don't help, find the 3GB switch instructions on the forum here (if you could provide a link once found I'd appreciate it.)

Thanks guys! The 3GB switch did it. I've been playing v37 for the past week and had only one CTD.
