But by the time you can get magicarp you probably have more pokemon other than your starter. I don't know any pokemon game where he is available immediately.

On the VBA I use a cheat to get magikarp early on and on my GBA I catch a Pidgey then trade my starter and release the bird....

I got a brand, new shiny Pokemon Platinum game, and I've been playing it for quite awhile... I have 7 badges and Pokemon Lvs. 47-48.

Onix, Male, 47
Staraptor, Female, 47
Roselia, Male, 48
Infernape, Male, 47
Golduck, Male, 48
Luxray, Female, 48

I have to go to Mt. Cornet and the damned Distorton World, and I don't want to do that. It's long and boring, and I just want to hurry up and get those damn badges, so I can take on the E-4 and go to the battle frontier as quickly as possible.

So apparently there's going to be a fifth generation. Two new Pokes were unveiled which serebii.net claims aren't fakes and will appear in some movie at some point.

Anyone excited about this? It doesn't mean much to me because I haven't even played the fourth generation yet.

(By the way, the Normal-type monotype run I was doing is still on, but has been delayed due to university commitments. Basically, all eight badges have been obtained and it's now time to start the really boring Victory Road 'lug stupid HM slave Chinchou with Flash around the cave' section, which I'm not exactly salivating at the thought of.)

Flash is so bloody annoying to need to get through places, especially since it doesn't actually unblock anything it just makes it so much more convenient.

Flash is useful in battle, to kill someone's accuracy. I use it in battle very early in the game, but mostly, yeah... it's useless.

when i was about 9 I played my first pokemon game: Pokemon red, and at the time I didn't understand the whole flash thing, so I just got through Rock Cave without Flash.

Flash is useful in battle, to kill someone's accuracy. I use it in battle very early in the game, but mostly, yeah... it's useless.

If you want to kill a pokemon's accuracy, use Sand Attack, not Flash. At least Sand Attack will hit on almost every occasion.

I played red and gold intensly back in the day. As soon as I got gold I transfered over my 6 level 50-80ish charizards though just to blow through it and start cathing them all.

I recently just got pearl and am taking my time just collecting pokemon, my current lineup is

Alakazam lv 28(Which I broguht up from a level 6 abra using hidden power)
Machamp lv 29(I had a friend trade and then trade back for these)
Gyrados level 29(Which I broguth up from a magikarp myself)
Staravia level 28(again caught almost immediatly in the beggining and raised)
Monferno level 28
Psyduck level 28
and sometimes luxio(same as above) level 25

and occasionaly Bidoofs second form, level 25.

Its crazy, Im so used to red and blue where ponytas were rare and gryados wasnt just catachable, you had to bring up your own crappy magikarp, and I remember in the red and blue days if you had a gyrados that was like WHOA crazy, but now its no big deal as you can just catch them outright, same thing with psyduck, he wasnt rare, but I remember seing people with golducks and geing amazed. In red if I remember right to, there werent any or hardly any tier two and above in the wild, they were all tier one. My how the times have changed.

Just a hint, you can catch budews second from south of hearthhome city, which is way easier to do than making budew all happy wiht poffins until he decides to stop being a stubborn jerk and evolve(again, like the gyrados thing, I didnt know you could just freaking catch him)
