Polish Civilization

ok well I'd say that the Polish should be Scientific and Religious

Religious because its a strongly religious country, and Pope John Paul II is Polish.

Scientific because Poland has produced many smart people

Theres Capernicus (sp?) Currie (The woman who won a nobel prize for her work on radioactive materials) amoung others,

So i'd say the villiage idiot this would have to be a no, but thanks for spreading your ignorance :)

Hey all!

Wow, being new here, I just posted about this very same topic.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents:

I agree with religious, my God do I ever agree with that! Its a must for a Polish civ.

As for the other trait, I would lean towards scientific. Poland was always on the cutting edge as far as science (Copernicus!), but it never really had the resources to capitalize on that. Also, its difficult neighbours never really gave Poland time to concentrate fully on science. :)

Wonders: Already have Copernicus Observatory. I would not agree with Lublin Treaty, since it did not really influence the whole world, but just two countries. Wieliczka sounds good, but its not really that big of a deal. My choice would be the Solidarity Memorial - makes the civ that builds it resistant to assimilation (We are the Borg, resistance is futile!).

Special (UU) unit: Still the Winged Hussars for me. The Ulans were very impressive in action, be it in the Napoleonic Wars, the Russo-Polish War of 1920, or even the Spetember Campaign of 1939 (where Polish ulans acctually won engagements against mechanized German infantry and even armoured units). Still, even though the hussar's origins are not 100% Polish, the hussars are the most famous Polish military unit, and a source of much pride among Poles.

Leaders: This one is easy - Kosciuszko, Pulaski, Pilsudzki, Mieszko, Urbanowicz (who will guess who he was? Think 303 Squadron).... and many many others.

Cities: Krakow, Gniezno, Warszawa, Gdansk, Sczecin, Koszalin... Its not a forgotten civ, so no point naming more. Warszawa should be the capital IMHO - I like someones post saying that Washington is the US capital, even though originally it was Philly.

Primary government: hehe, I like Zmey Gorynich's comment about anarchy - HOW TRUE!!! :) Still, during its glory days, Poland's government was part monarchy, part democracy! Maybe that is the reason why Poland fell from power so fast!

Also, reading through Zmey's post, I was thinking it might be a good idea to make the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth instead of JUST Poland. Poland (and Lithuania) were really powerful, but only when combined as one. Combining these two countries into one civ might be a very good idea, as long as both countries are represented in cities and military leaders, but without a doubt the main leader should be a Pole (since Poland was considered the driving force behind the Commonwealth, rightly or unrightly so). Also, both countries shared similar traits (mainly being religious).

Ohh yeah, the Germans and Russians should have a dislike for Poland. :) There is nothing like a good cavalry war!!!
