Heavy Metal is not about this kind of thing.
It is about the individual - Not political garbage.
Politicians would like to see Metal wiped out.
It matters not how much a band seeks to flatter the establishment.

All it shows us is that Manowar know how to make money from the current situation.

If you printed Old Glory onto a potato, it would sell in the US.

And besides:
Many bands have done this political/gimmick thing, on both sides of the debate.

Iced Earth, Kreator, Slayer and Destruction spring to mind.

;)

Manowar didn't didn't make the song as a political one. It was made that by fans afterwards. That Manowar was patriotic after 9/11 it is totally understandable.

Patriotism gimmicks are a good money spinner.

Same as wearing make up and bullet belts.

Manowar is still around ??
Amazing. ;)

some lyrics from my favorite manowar song :
No one can escape me on Black Death I ride
When kissed by the sword of Vengeance
Your head lays there by your side
I take the lives of all that I once knew
The torn flesh of a slow death waits for you

Manowar is still alive and going strong.

When losers say it's over with you know that it's a lie
The Gods made Heavy Metal and it's never gonna die

Among other classic bands, Manowar have found a new-lease of life with the Nuclear Blast label.

The new album has some good moments of complete axe-swinging cheese!

On first listening to it, I felt my fist being raised in the air to hail the steel!

:D

I might as well post a token Manowar lyrics also!

"Army of the heavens, my army waits in hell -
To battle on the earth, for all the souls who fell!
I will not go unto my death alone -
Seven gates to pass until I reach my home!
Across the bridge of death, beyond the gates of light -
Into the heart of darkness, into the black of night!

No road back, I never will return!
Into the fire of hell I will burn!
And die, die, die - into the house of death!
And die, die, die - into the fire of hell!"

PS
This in no way denotes that I believe in any heaven/hell!

Who cares about Manowar's politics anyway? If I needed someone to tell me what to think, I'd retain the sanity not chose musicians for that slot.

I'll appreciate, or not appreciate, a band based on their music. Their politics are of no concern to me.

I enjoy all varities of favourable propaganda, and featuring Manowar is a big plus. It is a good step towards the merging of the two mediums - music and propaganda.

As I said, it is just a gimmick anyway.

Bands like Manowar prefer to sing about swords of steel, copious ale drinking and Wagnerian melodrama.

It certainly isn't rare, but it is rare that it is well done.

Don't I know it!

If you say you like power Metal here in Scotland - Most rockers say: "Hey! Then you must love Manowar!"

To which I would reply 'I'm a Manwarion'. :king:

Storealex good to see another Manowarian about the place who knows that Wagner is the Grandfather of Heavy Metal.

Courage wasn't a political song but did become one by virtue of the song itself (just shows you how freaking great Manowar is). Plus I had the fan made video clips for a while (gotta to luv your cable-modem). Manowar have never been very political as the Hell On Earth DVD shows they spend all their time drinking and wenching. Although Joey in speedo's was an ugly site!

Although politics and heavy metal tend to not mix well - kind of limits the fan base. Although it is to be expected it's not like other musical genre's have songs free of 'political leanings' excepting Pop music of course. :D

Just take a look at Al Jorgenson's (sp?) [Ministry] new album it's dedicated to 'Hating G.W. Bush II'. I've always liked his music anyway so I'll probably buy it - always hated his politics though.

Good music is good music and will bought and listened too regardless of it's political leanings.

Manowar are a bunch of posers.

Slayer is god (in terms of metal).

This is hardly necessary - Manowar are a great power metal outfit, with a few eccentricities admitedly. I'm also a big Slayer fan - but these days Slayer aint on the pinnacle of the Metal Ladder anymore. As I recall Slipknot closed for Slayer (we all know Kerry King is a big Slipknot fan) on their recent UK Tour (?) and I don't ever recall Manowar being on the same bill with Slipknot (or at least I hope not).

I agree that Slayer had their best days some time ago (I'd say they were at their top with Decade of Aggression), but live they are still magnificent and of course Lombardo is back.

Manowar represent a middle-age macho chliche I just can't stand and I personally think that their music is not powerful. Listen to the second Omen record for example, it's quite the same style, but unlike Manowar it doesn't make me laugh.

Yeah Decade was definately their high point. Still it doesn't excuse them for sharing the stage with Slipknot. Thats actually worse than Metallica sharing the stage with Limp Bizkit - but we expect such poser antics from Metallica these days.

Although I still haven't seen Manowar share the stage with a Nu-metal outfit. :D

Most metal bands use some kind of gimmick - be it Manowar, Slayer, Gwar or Hammerfall etc.

I seem to recall Slayer in their early days had a penchant for eye make up and disco pants. Thank god they ot out of that rut.

It's a power metal thing - if you don't like Manowar no one is asking you to. Of course Slayer are middle age too no suprise really since these bands were around in the 80's you'd expect them to be middle age!

Thanks for the 'listen to this record' advice - I really don't need it though. I've been into true metal for quite some time and got way too many cd's stacked up to listen to and haven't had the time to get to it. I still got to make time for Darklord - thats going to hit the play list soon!

Think I'll go get out some Ayreon as well perhaps? :king:

Clearly you just want to take shots at Manowar and their fans - I'm sure every metal fan out there has an agenda against other metal bands.

I expect your nic is based on a Metallica song? So just quit with the anti-Manowar agenda it's very tiring.

Laugh all you want - But real Metal is not to be laughed at.

But bands like Manowar still represent a well-listened to genre and are very popular in the UK and Europe.
They have been in the scene for years also, more than can be said for many young pretenders.

And they have never given up the hard-sound to please the media or increase sales.
Unlike some other US bands - Metallica, Machine Head, Fear Factory, etc.

Power metal may come off as cheesy - But these band's dedication to the Metal spirit is total, nonetheless.

The melodramatic lyrics, look and sound is what sells it so well.
If you could see the vast amount of bands that do the festival tours in (for example) Wacken -
You would see that the this is no mere 'out of date cliche.' - This is a big business.

And of course there are levels to all rock sounds - So should we be at odds?
I'll wager my favourite bands, Hate Eternal and Vader, can totally annihilate old-agers like Metallica.

But why compare - There is room in the scene for all types of rock.

It is foolish for a respectable Rocker/Metaller to compare his bands to another.

That's my tuppence.

:)
