Political Unions?

Maybe city states should do it rather than destroying the city.

For players maybe you could have a political union card so when attacking a civ with the same goverment and had the card in play any non ceded cities do not have a negative impact? I suggest a card because we have thing like Meritocracies as cards already. More red cards would add more flavour.

Otherwise I guess its just another goverment... Do we need one?

I was thinking Political Unions as more of a mechanical sense, sorta like an aliance but encompassing more than 1 civ. Not sure how new govs would fit in the current civic tree right now but i think a rethought civic/tech tree that was longer and more carfully thought out could possibly include more gov types-
I would love to see reformation of the 3 great ideals because communism and fascism arent governments they are just the style of a governmen. This being said i would it would be more appropriate to have Dictatorshsip,Republic, Comenweaths or Fedirations as government choices with flavors of communism or fascism or captilism. Just because a country is Democratic it doesnt mean its capitalistic.

P.S. i really like that idea for city states

In the current game the way it works, this scenario is fairly standard

I am a facist as well as Peter and Ghandi. They both like me because I am peaceful and diplomacy aware and also see the benefit of a political union.Peter and Ghandi hate each other because they are always declaring wars.

Pop on a civ in your current game and look at their relationship with everyone, normally hate abounds. I cannot see them sharing breakfast at Tiffany's

But OK in theory, what reward for such a union does one suggest?

Well first of it would have the same effects as a defensive pact and a alliance, it should also include buffs to tourism, trade routs, as well as science and culture to all those included. This union should also act as a sort of world congress with participants voting for a head giving them more power amongs the polotical group, the union could vote on things like a science/culture program for a boost but at a cost of gold from them all, a vote on what other civ to declar war on in x anmount of time, which gov policies they must have or goverments they must have, they could even vote on how much military power each should upkeep and have a penalty enforced by a reduction in gold.

Over all i think while not nessasary it would be a very interisting addition allowing for a more complex game as well as making domination more challenging because instead of just 1 civ you might face several, this could even unite civs in diffrent warring unions thus casuing massive world war style campanes between multiple civs.

The options are pretty open to how it could benifet the participants. As well as increase playability by making each game even more diffrent depending on what unions form and what civs they include

I know that the ai pretty much hates every other ai but i really wish that they would increase the ai intelligence to understand the benifets between friendship vs war. It just seems kinda unrealistic that most civs would hate everyone

Sorry forgot to hit reply

Hmm, I like this idea. Maybe it could add to the depth and importance of diplomacy, and move allies and things away from a sort of useless and flippant thing. I think there needs to be ways to improve relations and to bind countries closer together, which would in turn make alliances a bit stronger and something to take a little more seriously.

I really hope they improve the AI understanding of diplomacy I hate how they "like me" but will declare war on a dime

On another note what if you could send envoys to civs and get a small diplomatic bonus for each? If they declare war maybe your envoys come back

political disunion. i live in a country that just voted to leave what used to be an economic free trade and cooperation area and which some of the members (ignoring popular opinion) decided to push towards becoming a federal superstate. so if this is political union in the mode of European Union, it goes both ways. the american civil war was fought and it changed the usa into a nation from a loose federation of otherwise totally independent states. its still a federal union but its much closer to a country in many ways with self governing regions.
