I voted Mao, although I think the rest of communist wackjobs were just as bad. Hell ... Hitler was a 'light-weight' compared to the likes of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot. (On the other hand, not even someone like Hitler could run Germany in the same manner as Russia and most Asian countries where tyranny has been something of a historical norm for these regions.)

Oh, come on, you can't put Lenin in that bunch. Yes, he was a brutal and ruthless ruler, but a Cromwellian character like him doesn't exactly sit alongside Stalin or Pol Pot! For a start, he wasn't responsible for anything like their level of democide!
That's not to say I endorse Lenin or his actions, but to compare him to Hitler or Pol Pot like that is simply ridiculous.
It was even ffor his era ( togheter with Tamerlan ) an extremly cruel and genocidal ruler - my vote is for him.
Consider how scarce was the population in many areas which he conquered & depopulate ( for eg. Russia took 2 and half century to recover and Arabian&Persian most rich and englighted areas never fully recover after that invasions ) is by far the "top-murderous ruler".
P.S. : Vlad Tepes counted here ? Is a joke - isn't it ?
In terms of pure atrocity, Hitler
In terms of sheer number of people suffering or died, Mao
I usually refer to him as Emperor Mao I
The one thing Mao did right after winning the revolutionary war was on the Eve of his death, he didn't hand the power to his wife and her wack-job bunch.
