Well I only really played once as every civ... Except Rome of course. :) Played them over and over again. :yeah: So it's hard for me to judge when I got such a clear favorite. But I found Greece to be the powerhouse for me, being able to steamroll people from the start. Got the fastest domination victory playing as them (Post ocean traveling, industrial age as it was continents map). Sadly (in my opinion anyway...) Hall of Fame seems to be putting higher in score those games, that dragged for very very long... When I got the cleanest, fastest domination victory as Greece. :dunno:

Babylon for me.

Early unique Walls and Archer means I will almost definitely found wonderful city sites and defend them throughout the early game.

Double-Rate GS points means you will probably never catch up after the early game.

Science and Defense focus means ANY victory is a VERY viable option from turn 1.

But I also do not believe that Babylon is OP at all. I personally feel that Siam and Greece are a little bit OP, because when they focus on snapping up all the City States (plus a full Patronage tree) they are just powerhouses. No matter how many cities, or of what quality, as long as they can make the gold they can rule the world.

pure multiplayer perspective- France leads by far! 8th turn settler from collective rule is unmatched. plus no-competition great library from free great engineer is also unmatched. That is why i host 'no-france' rooms.

Babylon for me.

....um.....wha?

Sounds like you're saying that Babylon is the strongest Civ while not being OP, and yet you think Siam and Greece are OP....but are presumably weaker than Babylon. I don't get it?

What I mean is... I would vote for Siam or Greece as most powerful (single player only), except that I feel they are over-powered. I believe Babylon is the most powerful balanced civ.

Ahh, gotcha. I think you have a point about balance. Civs like Persia, Babylon and Siam are very popular Civs and I think they are because of this balance. They have more general strengths that can be applied in a number of ways that make for more interesting possibilities where as a Civ like Mongolia (who I voted for as my personal strongest) or Japan are very one dimensional and will follow a very similar path in every game that utilizes their unique qualities.

Japan no question.

While their UUs are moderate to weak, Bushido is the best bonus in the game in my opinion.

You can see the value of it from the first turns, all the way to the last, and it is insanely powerful. I always miss it when playing other nations.

China can win different ways and are not map dependent. :)

every civ is "strong", so i voted for the strongest military powerhouse which is for me japan.

yeah like a better factory would be cool

yeah they talk about industrious america but no bonus to production??? i made a suggestion on a different thread about a new UA. it was called Armament of the Allies and doubled production during wartime

Limiting it to wartime is unrealistic, though. The USA historically had strong production capabilities regardless, except for the depression era. All economies overheat during wartime, and linking production to war would mitigate towards staying at war as the USA, which is counter to our national psyche. (And a Democracy's limited wartime staying power.)

I wouldn't necessarily call what's going on right now, or even Vietnam, a "war" in the conventional sense.

Edit: eek, getting political, better backpedal...

Wonders can make difference in any age, that's why I voted Egypt.besides their ub gives happiness and it has no cost.

I voted for China, its UT general makes all your units to be UU. Its UU and UB are mid-top range, which provide solid support.

voted China as well. one of the best UUs, numerous and strong GGs, a decent UB... everything is good here. Songhai and France close behind...

wow Siam is winning but no posts supporting it.

What needs to be said, really?

As long as CS aren't turned off, Siam is a freakin' monster. <-- There ya go, supported it.

I chose France. They have the most useful UA to me. Early policies, early tile expansion. Later on you keep that lead, most of the time.
Their UU's are quite good. Not the best, but there are more worse UU's in the game then better ones.
