After seeing the topic about the experiment to see whether KSM or Lake Victoria is better for Spain, I guess it would interesting to see which NWs make you more disappointed as opposed to giddy to incorporate it into your borders.

Not to say they're bad, but more outclassed and less relevant early on.

For the purpose of the poll I'm putting in GBR and the obviously awesome ones.

As for myself, I've always had a very bad opinion of Old Faithful. 2 Science (4 for Spain) is weak even for early game, and using it horribly stunts your expansion's early growth. 3 Happiness means it's sort of a free expansion, but more often than not I see Old Faithful in a bad region with poor resources. So...no point really getting it?

The *Barringer Crater - it's a pretty lackluster NW anyway, and it's usually pointless to try to settle near it anyway, as it's almost always surrounded by desert.

Krakatoa -- if simply because you can [almost] never use it. Barringer Crater is runner-up.

old faithful (just reach it by culture) the science is pathetic and 3 happiness is weaker than a single lux. At least Barrington crater gives gold too... and Krakatoa as Spain is nice if it spawns 2 tiles away from the coastline

The barringer is basically always in the desert.

The old faithful at least can be milked just for the happiness. You don't need to work it, so it can free up the pop that you would otherwise use on a NW.

The barringer may be able to give you a science boost, but the fact that it's in the desert means later on the lack of growth will make up for your early science gain

well there was a big 2-page thread in BNW section about how Kilamanjaro is bad and should feel bad b/c it's so OP. i'm sure that's what the vote was about.

I always hate settling near natural wonders. They're just one more tile with slightly-better-than-average yields that you can't build improvements on or even move over.
I said Krakatoa, because it's always in the middle of nowhere, and always in the ocean. Even if you settle as close as you possible can, your borders will still have to expand to bring Krakatoa into your territory, as it is always one its own tiny one-hex island.

I'm surprised there's so many votes for Grand Mesa. Sure, it's no GBR, and I probably also would've ranked it along the bottom 5 NWs. But dead last? It does give some hammer, which means even when your city isn't growing, you're at least still cranking out some buildings in good time, perhaps that Granary needed for you to grow. An extra 3 gold doesn't hurt in the gold-starved early game.

And I just realized it's Barringer Crater. For some reason I thought it was Barrington for the longest time.

I voted for the Grand Mesa because it's not all that good and it gets worse with each era. Krakatoa would have been my choice because I've never once actually had it in range of a city, but its bonus is quite strong if you can get it early in the game. +5 science would be pretty amazing to have when your city is only generating ~10/turn and the science scales up with wonders, buildings and policies/ideologies/World Congress so it can be quite significant.

this doesnt make sense, you dont always have a single lux and they exclude each other, also the bonus happy is ALWAYS added
im not saying its a great NW but thats not the reason (and its surely not the worst)

also im curious about who voted barrier reef
its a huge early tile, really HUGE

what are the reasons behind hating barrier reef?

Barringer Crater, it's always in desert or Tundra in middle of nowhere, well i suppose that's kinda historical?

Barringer, its on tundra, although I voted Krakatoa because i never has that NW in my territory.

How is old faithful bad to settle? It's like a free luxury: you don't even have to work it or improve it. It also acts as a mountain to make the city more defensible. This is much better than Grand Mesa, which is only slightly better than an unimproved hill.

Someone still angry that coastal starts can actually be good?
